Redwood’s Fraternal Bonds
Center in Lakeside Lodge

(above the article appeared a photo of the Lakeside lodge temple,
IOOF, only fraternal home in Redwood. It once was the Baptist church.)

REDWOOD. -- Redwood’s fraternal bonds are centered in the Odd Fellows order, represented by Lakeside Lodge 328, and its attendant Rebekah chapter. The lodge owns its own home, once the Baptist church, moved to its present location from adjacent to the district school, and revised to meet the needs of the order.

It is well appointed and well equipped, having a spacious dining room with kitchen adjoining at the back, and club facilities comprising pool and card tables and reading opportunities. As the only clubroom of the community, it is a social mecca, of course restricted to wearers of the three links.

Walter Johnston is noble grand; Frank Booth, vice grand, Carl Theoboldt, recording secretary; Olin Spies, financial secretary; Morris Jewett, treasurer. There are about 50 members in good standing, meeting each Thursday evening. For several years the lodge has sponsored a troop of Boy Scouts.

It was instituted in January, 1907, originally meeting in the Dollinger building, where it was burned out 11 years ago. Regalia and some of the furniture of the rooms were saved altho a great deal was lost. Never a large body, the lodge always has been surprisingly active for its size, with a high percentage of attendance. Its roster is one of the smallest of any lodge in the district, but its attendance record one of the best.

A few years ago 30-year buttons were distributed together with one for 35 years of membership and one for 40 years. Several charter members are active, of whom Karl Bickelhaupt is one of the most dependable. A. D. LaFrancois, who signed the charter 35 years ago, retains his membership, altho removed to Watertown.

Redwood lodge has contributed two district deputies, Rev. Ernest Bragg and Walter Johnston. Mr. Bragg also served a term as grand chaplain of the state. The Rebekahs meet on second and fourth Tuesday evening.
