Historic Texas Cemeteries
Hall of Honor
This part
of the Texas Cemetery Preservation project was developed for those folks
who chose to "Adopt A County Cemetery List".
They have
taken on a noble cause. This web page can offer only a little recognition.
They deserve so much more.

Brazos County-
I will help any way that I can. I have discovered that Brazos
County was inventoried and transcribed five
or six years ago and there is a book in the Carnegies Library in Bryan
which lists the cemeteries. If I can find the publisher of the "Cemeteries
of Brazos County", I will determine if I can get permission to place the
information on the Texas GenWeb sites.
I helped to organize the Peach
Creek Cemetery Association, several years
ago, by obtaining its non-profit charter, writing the Constitution and
By-Laws and getting its tax exemption status under the IRS rules. If I
recall correctly, the oldest tombstone in that cemetery is 1840.
Hamilton County--
Lt Col Eldon L. Sanders, USAF (MSC), Retired. This county cemetery list
has been adopted by The Hamilton
County Genealogical Society We have logged every grave
in Hamilton County.
We have funeral home records, we know where each cemetery is and what kind
of shape it is in. There are two ways to contact us. One is through
The
Hamilton County Genealogical Society and the other is through
Carlian
Massingill Pitman We will be glad to help.
Bell County--The
Bell County Transcription
Project has adopted the cemetery list for Bell County. They are
in the process of cataloging every cemetery in the county.

Bastrop County ---Oct.
11, 2000
I try and take my
digital camera when I go survey cemeteries, therefore, the online pictures.
I have a realtors map that has a lot of cemeteries marked, so I check them
off as I go. The master database is a few years of work, collecting
death information as I get it. Completed surveys are put on the rootsweb
archives, which I'm behind on.
I know what it is
like to not be able to go out of town to a cemetery of my ancesters and
the joy of finding an online listing for a cemetery with a direct line
ancester's information. This is my way of giving back to those that
have given.

Van Zandt County --I
will give you a little background on how I work with the Genealogical Society
to keep this particular section updated.
I do not use their
surveys, I use surveys and information obtained from the various cemetery
boards and some older surveys from other books from the Van Zandt County
Historical Society that I have permission to transcribe. Then I keep
them updated as well as I can via the obits from the news paper.
Since I started this project, the Genealogical Society's sale of their
publications has increased 25 to 30 percent. Also, my dad, who is
also a member on the board of one of the Cemeteries has produced a color
coordinated map that the society sells that is absolutely wonderful when
it comes to finding these elusive sites.
I LOVE my work with
the web site, after all, my ancestors are buried in some of these cemeteries
and I owe them that much!! Also, someday, I too will be buried here
and hope someone cares enough to do the same for me.

Crosby County --- All
cemeteries located in Crosby County are maintained by the Cemetery Association
and supported by this association along with the Crosby County Historical
Society. We re-set stones, pay to have the cemetery mowed, and have
rules and regulations strictly adhered to.
All cemeteries have been surveyed, transcribed
and obits, pictures added at the TXGenWeb Project for Crosby County.
