WELCOME!

The village of Unterdorf was established by German colonists on the west side (Bergseite) of the Volga River in Russia in 1852. This website is intended to serve as a genealogical resource for persons interested in learning more about their Unterdorf ancestors and the Volga Germans. We invite you to visit our researcher list.

Gayle Behm of Scottsbluff, Nebraska served as Unterdorf Village Coordinator (VC) for the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia for many years. Thanks to Gayle and her late mother-in-law, Katherine Steinbrecher Behm, who collaborated in gathering and assembling information about Unterdorf. They have been an inspiration to me in developing this website. While I no longer serve as AHSGR Village Coordinator, I remain keenly interested in my ancestral village of Unterdorf and will continue my research and this website. Visitors who'd like to share information here are heartily encouraged to do so -- and full acknowledgement will be given. Simply drop me an e-mail. Many thanks.
