FAMILY HISTORY CENTER

Our file cabinet contains information on Family History Research on the following Surnames in our family:

Initial BThe name "Beck", meaning brook or stream, can be found in numerous English and German combination names. A man who dwelt near a stream, usually took the surname of "Beck." This surname began being used in about the year 1086 in England. The Beck surname is also in use throughout Scandinavia.

Initial EThe Erwins, also known as Irwin, Erwine, Irvin, Ervin and Urwin, were of Scotch-Irish descent. That is not to say they were a mixture but that they originated in Scotland and moved to the northernmost province of Ireland in the 1600's and eventually to America. They then moved into PA., VA., OH., TN., N.C., & TX.

The Morgans, McAdams, Drurys and Erwins were all inter-related by marriage and that connection gave us clues to our Indian Ancestry.  Thanks to the McAdams of Louisiana for their help in locating Grandmaw Nancy and her Indian Husband, James Drury.

Initial SThe Stuckey surname has been spelled a number of different ways through the years: Stookey, Stukey, Stucky, Stuckie and Stucke. Tradition tells us that the family originated in France and moved to Switzerland many centuries ago. Most of our family are offspring of a few people who moved into Germany since the Swiss government would not allow them to emigrate to America.

Initial TAccording to Colonial records, the Trims came to America from the British Isles, settling in New England and then moving South into Person County, N.C. and finally spreading throughout East Tennessee.

Initial WLike the Stuckeys, our Wolfe ancestors originated in Switzerland and moved into Germany before emigrating to America. Most of our Wolfe ancestors settled in the Orangeburg District of South Carolina.
