Baysingers in Pre-French Revolutionary Alsatian Military

Baysingers in the Military, Before the French Revolution

These names come from the Haut-Rhin site, Centre De'partamental d'Histoire des Families. The site explains "some young men were sorted to become soldiers. Of course, there were a few conditions:

to be between 16 and 40 years old
to live alone, or be widowed
      without children
to be five feet length [tall?]
      not to be crippled

The term of service was 6 years, unless the young man could afford a replacement. If this was done, a contract might be found in the notarial records.
