Descendants of Levij Juda Assenheim

Ashkenazic Jews, Amsterdam

Levij was born in Germany, but lived for much of his life in Amsterdam.  At least one of his children came to England but it is not known whether Levij came too, or any others of the family.  It is likely that Levij and his family were Ashkenazic Jews (see Levy page)

 

Generation No. 1

1. LEVIJ JUDA1 ASSENHEIM was born Abt. 1761 in ?Assenheim-im-Niddatal, near  Frankfurt-am-Main. He married JUDIC SALOMAN AKKERMAN Abt. 1790.

In Sept 1809 Levij's trade was old cloth, whilst living in Amsterdam with his wife and 6 of his surviving 7 children.

Generation No. 2

 

2. ISAAC (ISADORE) LEVIE2 ASSENHEIM (LEVIJ JUDA1)1 was born 1797 in Amsterdam, and died October 11, 1870 in Bethnal House, Bethnal Green, London.. About 1827, he married HANNAH BELLAM, daughter of AARON BELLAM and RACHAEL ABRAHAM. She was born 1804 in Plymouth, and died January 02, 1891 in 15 Casson St, Mile End..

In 1838 Isaac and Hannah lived at 20 Bath St, Plymouth (photo below). This was later sold to the Great West Railway for 7/6d.  Between 1840 and 1844 they moved to London.

In 1851 they lived at 21 Hutchinson Ave, London.

1861 they lived at 25 Duke St, Old Artillery Ground, Mddx.

The area around Back St, Plymouth - derelict - Back St itself was boarded off.

Isaac was a traveller/hawker.

Notes for HANNAH BELLAM:

1881- Hannah was living at 14 George St, Mile End, with her grand daughter Frances, and Frances' husband, Phillip DioRey, a cigar maker.

4. ESTHER3 ASSENHEIM (ISAAC (ISADORE) LEVIE2, LEVIJ JUDA1) was born June 14, 1840 in Bath St, Plymouth.  Her parents must have moved to London within a few years of her birth, as their last child was born in London in 1844.  Esther married LOUIS LEVY December 10, 1861 in Great Synagogue, Duke's Place, London. He was born Abt. 1838 in The Netherlands or Germany.   1881 census -  Louis' occupation was Cigar Maker and they lived at 198 Hanbury St, MENT, just off the Mile End Road

5. ISAAC CHARLES4 LEVY (ESTHER3 ASSENHEIM, ISAAC (ISADORE) LEVIE2, LEVIJ JUDA1) was born April 16, 1869 in 4, Ramon Place, Mile End New Town2, and died July 22, 1938 in 6 Aberavon Rd3. He married ALICE LEAH WARD. She was born Abt. 1870, and died January 19, 1941 in Mile End Hospital.  Just before her death, Alice was living at 6 Aberavon Rd, Stepney, where she had lived with her husband and presumably continued to live there after his death. Death notified by her son, Samuel.
