The Van Eps Family Story
Dirck Evertse Van Eps, born about 1603, was the son of Evert Van Eps and his wife, Geeskie. Dirck was a shoemaker in Amsterdam, Netherlands. After he died in 1647 his second wife, Maritie Damen, remarried and came to New Amsterdam with her second husband, Hendrick Andriese Van Doesburgh, and Dirck’s children, Lysbet and Jan Dirkse Van Eps. The family settled in Beverwyck, which is now Albany, NY. Hendrick Van Doesburgh died before 1664 and Maritie remarried shortly after this for a third time to Cornelis Van Ness. Jan Van Eps, with his second step-father acquired Philip Hendrickse Brouwer’s estate in Schenectady at an auction in 1664.
