The Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow
The following is taken from "First Record Book of the 'Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow' Organized in 1697 and now The First Reformed Church of Tarrytown, N. Y.," An original translation of its brief historical matter, and a coy, faithful to the letter, of every personal and local name, of its four registers of members, consistorymen, baptisms, and marriages, from its organization to 1791, by Rev. David Cole, D.D., Yonkers, N. Y., Published by The Yonkers Historical and Library Association, 1901.

Note.
In the Reformed CHurches, Elders and Deacons were always elected and served for a term of years, usually two. At the end of their terms they might be re-elected, but were usually superseded by other men, chosen in their places. This coming register announces, each year, upon a given date, the freshly incoming Elders and Deacons received and ordained, and also the retiring ones, of whom it speaks as "discharged." Its formula of announcement never varies far from the following, which is its form used with its announcement for 1699, when its first "discharge" occurred:--
For 1699--Was Joachim Wouters received and ordained for Elder and David Storm as Deacon,--and on the same date were discharged from their service Abram De Revier and the Deacon Jan Ecker.
This will make clear the following register.
ELDERS AND DEACONS
This is the second of the great registers. The following is Dirck Storm's Heading to it:
The Third Division of the Church Book of the Manor of Philipsburgh, dating from the year of our Lord 1697. In it are registered the Elders and Deacon, the time and year in which they were respectively ordained to their service, and the dates at which, after two years of service, their respective terms came to an end, with a proper account of their receipts and expenditures, as will be shown in the sixth book (division) of the Minutes.
Taking up the ordinations as before said, and giving the dates and the names of the respective men, we proceed as follows,
