Deed of sale to George Weigoll, Augusta County, Virginia Deed Book 26, 1787 - 1790, Reel 12, p. 304 - 306, Local Court Land Records, Library of VA, Richmond, VA.

This indenture made this twenty first day of April in the Year of our Lord one thousand and seven hundred and eighty nine between John Gardner and Elizabeth his wife of the county of Augusta and Commonwealth of Virginia of the one part, and George Weigoll now of the county and Commonwealth aforesaid of the other part - Witness that the said John Gardner and Elizabeth his wife hath for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred pounds current money of the Commonwealth aforesaid to them in hand paid by the said George Weigoll the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge hath granted bargoned sold and delivered released conveyed and confirmed, unto the said George Weigoll his heirs executors adms and assigns forever a certain tract of land situate in the county aforesaid containing one hundred and eighty three acres which tract of land was first granted by pattent by Governor Blair under the Colony Seal to John Finley December the 1st 1740 and by the said Finley conveyed by lease to Alex. Gardner November the 27th 1749 and afterward devolved to Jn. Gardner the only son and heir at law to the said Alex. Gardner now deceased, which tract is on a branch of Catheys River called Finleys branch and bounded as followeth -

Beginning at two black oaks on William Anderson's line then North thirty degrees East one hundred & thirty seven poles to between two white oaks and a hickory, South sixty degrees East one hundred and ninety three poles, to a pine, South thirty degrees West seventy four poles to a pine, South sixty degrees East forty seven poles to a white oak, South thirty degrees West sixty three poles to a stake opposite a blazed white oak, North sixty degrees West two hundred and forty poles to the Beginning. To ever have and to hold the said granted and bargained premises together with all the appurtenances and privileges thereunto belonging; and that the same is now free and clear and shall remain so from all other and former gifts, grants, bargains, sales, mortgages, dowers, incumberances or whatever by them made or committed so as to disturb the said George Weigoll his heirs or assigns in the quiet and peaceably possession of the said granted and bargained premises forever. In witness whereof the said Jn. Gardner and Elizabeth his wife hath hereunto set their hands and seal the day and year above written.

At a court held for Augusta County April 21st 1789 this Indenture of Bargain and Sale between John Gardner and Elizabeth his wife of the one part and George Weigoll of the other part was acknowledged the said wife being first privily examined as the law directs and is ordered to be recorded.
