Eeklo Baptism, 1643

This notice of baptism was a handwritten entry recorded in one of the dozens of old municipal ledgers for the town of Eeklo, East Flanders, Belgium.

This is the oldest dated record I have for the VERSTRAETE family of Eeklo. The record is written in Latin.

Listed surnames are: VERSTRAETE(N); MOENS; VAN VOOREN; and VAN HAELE.

2a baptizatus est Guillielmus f(iliu)s Laurentij Verstraete(n) et Magdalenae Moens conjugum. Susceptores Mattheus van vooren et Catharina van Haele.

TRANSLATION:

August

(2) Baptized is Guillielmus, son of Laurentius VERSTRAETE(N) and Magdalena MOENS, united by marriage. The godfather was Matthew VAN VOOREN and the godmother was Catharina VAN HAELE.
