George W. TACKETT. Born circa 1787 in Tennessee, George W. died probably in Washington County, Indiana after 1850. He was a farmer. Before 1816 George married Sarah A. unknown in Lawrence County, Ohio. (Born abt 1799 in Virginia). George W. had the following children:

It is generally accepted that George W. Tackett is the father of the above individuals, although specific sources have not been found for all.

Green TACKETT. (George W.) Born on 9 Mar 1816, probably in Ohio, Green died near New Providence, Clark County, Indiana on 22 Nov 1881, he was 65. Buried in Miller Cemetery, Buzzard Roost, Clark County, Indiana. He was a farmer. On 30 Dec 1847 when Green was 31, he married Sarah STEWART. They had the following children:

Green appears to be the same person who is listed in the 1860 Federal Census, Clark County, Indiana as "Greenbury Tackett." Green farmed in Washington and Clark counties, and worked as a chairmaker and blacksmith. He is listed in the 1850 Washington County, Indiana census as being "deaf and dumb." Tackett Family oral tradition has been handed down that, unable to hear the warning, Green was struck by a train and killed; verification has been found in the Louisville Courier-Journal and the Indianapolis News.

Amaziah TACKETT. (George W.) Born circa 1817 probably in Ohio, Amaziah died in Indiana about 1867. He was a farmer. Amaziah served in the Army as a member of Company H, 70th Indiana Infantry, which was formed under the command of Benjamin Harrison. On 21 Feb 1843 he first married Rachel MITCHELL in Clark County, Indiana. On 18 Aug 1846 Amaziah second married Susan SLOAN, in Washington County, Indiana. They had the following children:

Lucinda TACKETT. (George W.) Born on 27 May 1833 in Ohio, Lucinda died in Borden, Clark County, Indiana on 25 Feb 1912; she was 78. Buried in her son Charles' plot at Miller Cemetery, Borden, Clark County, Indiana.

Lucinda was buried in her son's plot at Miller Cemetery because she didn't want to be buried in 'all those trees.' When she moved in with [her son] Bill and Lorena [nee CREAMER]. She would walk the train tracks from the 'upper' farm to the 'lower' farm. The upper was Bill's farm, the lower was her old home with Joseph. Lucinda and Lorena's mother [Mary Jane (nee WARD) CREAMER] both lived with Bill & Lorena til they died.

On 2 Feb 1850 when Lucinda was 16, she married Joseph G. WAGGONER in Salem, Washington County, Indiana.

John P. TACKETT. (Green , George W.) Born on 22 Feb 1851 in Indiana, John died in Sellersburg, Carr Township, Clark County, Indiana on 13 Apr 1904; he was 53. Buried on 14 Apr 1904 in Miller Cemetery, Buzzard Roost, Clark County, Indiana. He was a farmer. On 14 Oct 1870 when John was 19, he married Sarah E. "Sally" MINTON. On 21 Aug 1888 when Elisha was 33, he second married Elizabeth Belle ROBBINS, daughter of Preston & Nancy J. ROBBINS, in Clark County, Indiana. Born on 25 Sep 1866 in Indiana, Eliza Belle died on 11 Jul 1918; she was 51. They had one child:

On 6 Aug 1921 when Elisha was 66, he third married Ruth Bethena BUSH, daughter of Lewis Casper & Cora Bell BUSH, in Jeffersonville, Clark County, Indiana. Born on 28 Nov 1892 in Salem, Washington County, Indiana. Ruth died in Washington County, Indiana on 3 Jun 1988; she was 95. They had one child:

i. Donovan Beverage TACKETT. (1922-1994)

Elisha and Ruth moved back to Washington County around the time Donovan was 3 or 4. Elisha died of a stroke while out walking in the Rush Creek area of Washington County.

David Wesley TACKETT. (Green, George W.) Born on 9 Jun 1860 in Washington County, Indiana, David died in Sellersburg, Indiana in 1929; he was 68. Buried in Miller Cemetery, Buzzard Roost, Clark County, Indiana. He was a farmer. On 12 Sep 1882 when David was 22, he married Ellen MILLER, daughter of Harrison MILLER & Mary A. PEYTON, in Clark County, Indiana. Born on 26 Mar 1854 in Indiana, Ellen died on 9 May 1939; she was 85. They had one child:

Hiram TACKETT. (Amaziah, George W.) Born in 1849 in Indiana. Hiram worked as a farm laborer. On 17 Aug 1870 when Hiram was 21, he married Mary E. WILSON, in Morgan County, Indiana. (Born in Feb 1851 in Indiana). They had one daughter.

Lorenzo Dow TACKETT. (Amaziah, George W.) Born on 8 Sep 1857 in Martinsville, Morgan County, Indiana, Ramsy died in Martinsville, Morgan County, Indiana on 25 Nov 1927; he was 70. Buried in South Park Cemetery, Martinsville, Morgan County, Indiana. He was named for the well-known Methodist minister, Lorenzo Dow. In 1920 he was working as a night watchman for a lumber company. On 11 Oct 1900 when Ramsy was 43, he married Mary Aretta SULLIVAN, daughter of Evan F. SULLIVAN & Martha Jane PAYNE, in Martinsville, Morgan County, Indiana. Born on 21 Jun 1867 in Monroe County, Indiana, Mary Aretta died in Martinsville, Morgan County, Indianan on 27 Nov 1961; she was 94. They had the following children:

Buried in Riverside Cemetery, Payette County, Idaho. He worked as a Railroad Car Inspector. He moved his family west to Idaho in 1917, settling near Fruitland. On 21 Jan 1884 when John was 22, he married Mary Luretta WALKER, daughter of Robert Skinner WALKER & Sarah FRETZ, in Clinton, DeWitt County, Illinois. Born on 25 Aug 1866 in Clinton, DeWitt County, Illinois, Mary died in Fruitland, Payette County, Idaho on 3 Dec 1941; she was 75. They had the seven children.

McClellan TACKETT. (Amaziah, George W.) Born on 22 Jan 1863 in Morgan County, Indiana, Mac died in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana on 6 Apr 1934; he was 71. Elisha TACKETT. (John P.,, Green, George W.) Born on 8 Mar 1875 in Indiana, Elisha died after 1919. He was a farmer. On 24 May 1919 when Elisha was 44, he married Addie DYKE, in Clark County, Indiana. (Born on 6 Dec 1887).

Charles M. TACKETT. (John P.,, Green, George W.) Born in Oct 1879 in Indiana, Charles died on 17 Jul 1957; he was 77. Buried in Hickory Grove Cemetery, Clark County, Indiana. He worked as a railroad laborer. About 1903 Charles married Laura STONE. Born in 1869, Laura died in 1957; she was 88. They had nine children

Kelso Edward TACKETT. (John P.,, Green, George W.) Born on 5 Dec 1882 in Indiana, Kelso died on 25 Jun 1954; he was 71. Buried in Kraft/Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany, Indiana. He was a railroad section hand. On 19 Feb 1906 when Kelso Edward was 23, he married Anna M. KIEBLER, daughter of William KIEBLER & Cora ADKINS, in Clark County, Indiana. Born on 11 Feb 1884 in Clark County, Indiana, Annie died in Borden, Carr Township, Clark County, Indiana on 26 Dec 1918; she was 34. Her death was apparently due to childbirth complications. Kelso married twice following Annie's death. Kelso and Annie had the following children:

Charles E. TACKETT. (Elisha R., Green, George W.) Born in Nov 1879 in Indiana, Charles died after 1941. He was a farm laborer. On 30 Jul 1910 when Charles was 30, he married Ethel JACKSON in Washington County, Indiana. They had the following children:

Oliver Benjamin TACKETT. (Elisha R., Green, George W.) Born on 15 Jul 1890 in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, Oliver died in Monticello, White County, Indiana on 17 Mar 1972; he was 81. Buried in Crown Hill Cemetery, Salem, Washington County, Indiana. He worked variously as a carpenter in a furniture factory, and a farm laborer.

He was not too tall, but a large husky man. Had a great disposition and a good sense of humor. He was a farmer in his early years then a metal caster (cast large gears and such). When [his family] moved here, [he] mostly did woodworking & cabinet making in local factorys. He loved to hunt & fish.

On 15 Aug 1910 when Oliver was 20, he married Thelma E. BUSH, daughter of Lewis Casper & Cora Bell BUSH, in Washington County, Indiana. Born on 6 Mar 1891 in Washington County, Indiana, Thelma died on 23 Nov 1929; she was 38. They had two children.

Donovan Beverage TACKETT. (Elisha R., Green, George W.) Born on 26 Nov 1922 in Bloomington, Monroe County, Indiana, Donovan died in Monticello, White County, Indiana on 25 Apr 1994; he was 71. Buried in Crown Hill Cemetery, Salem, Washington County, Indiana. He worked for RCA Corp. in Bloomington, Indiana. On 1 Nov 1947 when Donovan was 24, he married Nettie Adeline PAXTON, daughter of Millard PAXTON & Ethel POWELL. Born on 2 Oct 1921 in Greensburg, Kentucky, Nettie Adeline died in Monticello, White County, Indiana on 3 Feb 2002; she was 80. They had three children.

Ora TACKETT. (David W., Green, George W.) Born on 1 Apr 1887 in Borden, Clark County, Indiana, Ora died in Palmyra, Harrison County, Indiana on 29 Jan 1952; he was 64. Buried in Sellersburg, Indiana. He worked variously as a blacksmith, farmer and veterinary surgeon. He was self-educated, and received his veterinary credential from a veterinary science correspondence course. On 15 Jun 1916 when Ora was 29, he married Nellie Edna BARNETT, daughter of James M. BARNETT & Nelie LINES, in Clark County, Indiana. Born on 29 Oct 1894, Nellie Edna died in Jeffersonville, Clark County, Indiana on 16 Mar 1984; she was 89. They had five children.

John Burr McCOLLUM. (Louisa T., Amaziah, George W.) Born on 4 Apr 1885 in Landersdale, Morgan County, Indiana, John died on 24 Mar 1978; he was 92. Buried at West Newton Cemeterey; Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. On 3 Jul 1908 when John was 23, he married Altie DYKE, in Morgan County, Indiana. Born on 10 Apr 1890 in Morgan County, Indiana, Altie died in Jun 1967 she was 77. They had four children.

Edgar McCOLLUM. (Louisa T., Amaziah, George W.) Born on 7 Jan 1884 in Spring Valley, Marion County, Indiana, Edgar died on 20 Jul 1973; he was 89. Buried in Maple Hill Cemeterey, Plainfield, Indiana. He was the head of the Manual Art Department at the Indiana Boy's School, and served on Plainfield Board for 23 yrs. On 29 Nov 1906 when Edgar was 22, he married Clara Zeller PLUMMER. Born on 13 Jul 1887, Clara died on 31 Oct 1981; she was 94. They had five children.

Effie MCCOLLUM. (Louisa T., Amaziah, George W.) Born in 1895, Effie died in Orlando, Florida on 29 Nov 1974; she was 79. Effie married unknown GROGAN.

Kate R.A. TACKETT. (McClellan, Amaziah, George W.) Born in 1886, Kate died before 1934; she was 48. She married unknown HACKER.

John L. TACKETT. (McClellan, Amaziah, George W.) Born in 1891, John married Louella M. ROSS.

Celia R. TACKETT. (McClellan, Amaziah, George W.) Born in 1894, Celia married unknown McQUINN.


Fifth Generation

Sadie Alma TACKETT. (Kelso E., John P., Green, George W.) Born on 9 May 1906, Sadie died on 30 Apr 1966; she was 59. Buried in St. Joseph Hill Cemetery, Sellersburg, Indiana. Sadie married John Peter HELBIG. Born on 2 May 1903, John died on 25 Aug 1994; he was 91. They had six children.

Lubie Edward TACKETT. (Kelso E., John P., Green, George W.) Born on 14 Oct 1907, Lubie died on 20 Mar 1981; he was 73. Buried in Atkins Cemetery, Floyd Knobs, Indiana. Lubie married living VON ALLMEN. They had four children.

Mildred Ethel TACKETT. (Kelso E., John P., Green, George W.) Born on 17 Jun 1912 in Clark County, Indiana, Mildred died on 2 Sep 1986; she was 74. Buried in Sellersburg Cemetery, Sellersburg, Indiana. Also known as "Mid," Mildred married Herbert LAMASTER. Born on 12 Jun 1912; Herbert died on 17 Mar 1992, he was 79. They had two children.

Mary Lucille TACKETT. (Kelso E., John P., Green, George W.) Born on 20 Oct 1914, Mary died on 22 Aug 1992; she was 77. Buried in Kraft/Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana. On 27 Feb 1937 when Mary Lucille was 22, she married Woodrow Wilson MILLER. Born on 2 Sep 1915, Woody died on 23 May 1996; he was 80.

Mary kept what she called her "Death Book" (a collection of family obituaries). Her collection has been appreciated by a number of Tackett genealogists.

Clarence Edward TACKETT. (James E., Elisha R., Green, George W.) Born on 11 Apr 1905 in Salem, Washington County, Indiana, "Ed" died on 4 Jan 1974, he was 68. Buried in Jan 1974 in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Los Angeles County, California. He was a machinist. Before 1947 Ed first married Doris GILLASPY. Born on 18 Sep 1918, Doris died in Mar 1987, she was 68. They had two children before they were divorced. Ed second married Jean unknown. They were divorced. On 9 Jun 1946 when Clarence Edward was 41, he third married Fern ROBERTS, in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. Born on 20 Oct 1886, Fern died in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana in Feb 1984; she was 97. They were divorced. After 1950 he again married Fern ROBERTS, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Harry Lee TACKETT. (James E., Elisha R., Green, George W.) Born on 15 Jan 1909 in Salem, Washington County, Indiana, Harry died in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles County, California on 19 Sep 1979; he was 70. Buried in Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, California. After training at Allison Division of General Motors in Indianapolis, Indiana in the early 1940's, Harry served as civilian staff for the U.S. Army based in Casablanca, Morocco during WWII. For the balance of his career, Harry worked as a buyer in the aeronautics industry. He was a member of Broad Ripple Lodge of Masons in Indianapolis. On 17 Aug 1927 when Harry Lee was 18, he married Katherine Elizabeth KNAUSS. They had one child:

Sixth Generation

Nancy Ann TACKETT. (Harry L., James E., Elisha R., Green, George W.) Born on 12 Jan 1929 in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, Nancy died at UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles County, California on 9 Oct 1975; she was 46. Buried on 13 Oct 1975 in Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles County, California. She graduated from Broad Ripple High School and attended Jordan Conservatory of Music at Butler University, both in Indianapolis. On 21 Jun 1953 when Nancy Ann was 24, she married Living MANSFIELD; they had three children.
