The Reuben & Mildred Rogers George Line
and why Ann Handley George's husband Reuben George does not seem to be their son, Reuben

The following chart and information comes from "The George Family 50th Reunion" Booklet (1967).
Col. John GEORGE came to VA from Middlesex, England and was granted land in Prince George Co., VA in 1635. He was a member of the House of Burgesses from the Isle of Wight County, VA in 1647 and 1652.

Reuben George, husband of Mildred Rogers George, "was born in Culpepper County, Va. and died in Pendleton County, now a part of West Va. He served in the American Revolution as a private in Capt. John Gillason's Co. of Col. Edward Steven's 10th Va. Regiment, serving in the battles of Germantown and White Marsh; and was a Sgt. in the 10th Continental Line." (page 3)

The following information comes from the "George Family Record", Thomas R. George, 1978. It agrees with Mary Jane George Rieth's research conclusion - that our Reuben George Sr. is not the son of Reuben and Mildred Rogers George, as our family researchers had previously thought.

... so Reuben & Mildred George's son Reuben is not the Reuben George, born July 31 1776, who married Ann Handley in Greenbrier Co WV in 1797.

Perhaps a study of GEORGEs in Greenbrier County WV will eventually find "our" Reuben's relatives.

In the meantime, Richard L. George has been working on other possibilities. Per his email 13 Sep 1999, here was his view of how Reuben (1776-1837) may actually have fit into Isaac George's line:
