Enoch H. Hutcheson
Company B
1846-1919

Enoch H. Hutcheson was the son of Peter Hutcheson and Hannah Rebecca Binegar Hutcheson, who were married on December 5, 1844 in Fayette County, Ohio.

It is presumed Enoch was born January 24, 1846 in Ross County, Ohio. Enoch had one sibling, Sarah Jane. After his father died or left the household, Enoch, his mother, and his sister moved in with Binegar relatives who resided in Fayette County. Later, they moved to Hardin County when his mother remarried; her second husband was Randal Clark Willson.

On January 12, 1862 at Washington Court House, Ohio, Enoch enlisted in Company H of the 60th Ohio Volunteer Infantry for a period of one year. Pension records indicate the regiment was captured and paroled at Harper's Ferry on September 15, 1862. Enoch then received his discharge in December of 1862.

On July 21, 1862, Enoch signed a declaration of recruit at Camp Dennison, Ohio for a term of three years. He stated his age was 17 and listed his occupation as farmer. No consent was entered. His service during this term was in Company L of the 11th Ohio Calvary. Enoch was discharged on August 16, 1865.

Almost 4-1/2 years later, Enoch married Samantha S. Parrett. They were married on January 26, 1870 in Fayette County, Ohio. There were four children born to this union: Eunice, Asa, Ida, and Jessie.

Enoch signed a General Affidavit on December 8, 1891 to receive a pension. He was residing in Springfield, Clark County, Ohio at the time up until 1910 or so. In 1913, when his wife applied for a portion of his pension, Enoch was residing in the Old Soldier's and Sailor's Home in Erie County, Ohio.

Enoch H. Hutcheson died on December 10, 1919. He was buried in Row 4, Grave 75 in the Ferncliff Cemetery in Springfield, Clark County, Ohio. His monument is engraved Enoch Hutchison, Co. B, 60 Ohio, Inf.

A special thanks to Frances Shaffer Cope for contributing this information. Enoch H. Hutcheson was her great grandfather.
