Rayborn Kirk
Company H
1837-1909

Rayborn Kirk was born August 17, 1837 on a family farm in Fayette County, Ohio. He was the younger brother of Madison "Matt" S. Kirk.

Rayborn enlisted on August 9, 1862 to serve for one year. He was 25 years old at the time. He served as a Private in Company H of the 60th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. His brother also served in this Company. On November 10, 1862, it was disbanded and Rayborn mustered out with his Company. Rayborn, then, re-enlisted as a Corporal with Company D of the 168th Regiment, Ohio National Guard, Infantry. He was taken prisoner in a battle in Cynthiana, Kentucky, but, fortunately, was later released.

Rayborn never married, but moved to a farm near Mechanicsburg, still in Fayette County. He lived with a brother and sister until his death on March 9, 1909. He was buried in Washington Cemetery in Washington Courthouse, Ohio.
