Dear Wife

        I take the pleasure of writing a few lines to you to say that I am well and you and the children the same I am still at the same place they say that we are going south carolinia I can not tell for sure they can take us enny place they chose the bom shell is flying from both sides a body dose not know when he is safe we get plenty to eat such as it is if I was a home I know you would make me a curant dumplin or kill a chicken and make some dumplins with is how good it would taste my teeth is sore a nibbling at these hard tack and the beef it is boilt all the time and I am so tired of it if I could get some side meat or shoulder I would feel better than I do my bowels is not much better I feel soar in my insides was my likeness in the box I have drawn two white shirts and a pare of socks I wish that I could get some letter paper and stamps hear I had to pay 10 cents for a sheat of paper 5 cts for an inveop stamps cannot be had if you could spare 25 cts and send me some stamps it will save something maby I will get someplace whare that I can get things some cheaper do not forget to send me the latest Gazett I heare that old linken (Lincoln) is going to run for president again I have not heard who the dimocratic candidate is yet I will not vote for old lincon I would rather stick my head be for the cannon and have it shot off if enny of the boys about their talks of coming to the army tell them to take a fools advice and stay at home I will you it is a hard place all though I am not dissatisfied you must not think that I will get down hearted for I do not
