Camp Chase        March 25, 1864

Dear Wife

        I take the opportunity to write a few lines to you to say that I am will at present wishing you the same I got back to camp safe I got to the station on Monday evening just in time to get on the train and I jumped a board and came to camp it was about 8 oclock when I got to camp in the morning I did not get much sleep and the next night one of our men had 4 fits and I did not sleep much that night and last night I like to froze for I only had but 1 blanket over me�there is about 500 hundred prisoners going to leave to day their is as nice a woman here as you would want to look at and her husband is in prison she has been hear four 4 months and has not seen her husband since they can write to each other we have the promise of a furlow to come home when _________________ first of the week we drill 4 times a day I have not received your letter yet I can not tell the reason it does not come I have a ___ in the bread basket the ___ comes back to day I must go and help to fix rations and come ____ to get dinner I do not know what to get for dinner I believe I will peel some potatoes and have some beef soup I have a ration to draw another blanket and send it home for _____ (Peter? Fetch?) _____ I will bring my letter to a close no more from your afectionat husband Thos. W. Stephenson
