60th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regimental Association Photo

60th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regimental Association

The flag in the photo appears to have 45 stars. Based on this, it places the date of the photo sometime between 1896 and 1907.

We believe my great grandfather, David Ayers, is in the second row from the top and the fourth person in from the left. If this is true, it would indicate the photo was taken in 1896, as that is the same year my great grandfather passed.

We also know that James M. Reed is in the photo, though we are not sure which person he is. Mr. Reed was residing in Nova, Ashland County, Ohio at the time of this photo.

Asa Borton is located in the back row directly under the "T" in "Association". Directly in front of him in the front row, seated, is his sister Mary Ann Borton-Mason. Mary Ann was the wife of Abraham Mason (Compamny B of the 60th Ohio) who was wounded at Hatcher's Run on October 27, 1864 and died at the City Point Hospital of his wounds on October 29, 1864. The woman two places to the left in the picture (or to Mary Ann's right) is most likely Mary Ann's daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Mason.

Jacob Briggs is the first man on the left in the row behind the women. His wife, Mary, is seated second from the left in front of him.

If anyone knows the identity of any of the people in this photo, please contact us.

Contributed by Sarah Reed.
