Ann Lewis grew up in Patterson, Georgia where she graduated from Patterson High School in 1953. She moved to Tampa to attend business school where she mastered the techniques of stenotyping with aspirations to become a court reporter. Following her marriage to Walter Berg, she gave up that career in favor of making a home for their children. She and Walter moved often in the early years of their marriage, residing in Tampa, Florida; Atlanta, Georgia; Sarasota, Florida; Fort Myers, Florida, Punta Gorda, Florida; St. Simons Island, Georgia; Brandon, Florida; and Young Harris, Georgia where they currently have their retirement home on a mountainside near that little college town.They travel frequently in their Airstream trailer.
