All the children in this family were born in Georgia - an area that is now Brantley County. The 1880 census curiously shows that George Washington and Paul Columbus Johns were born in South Carolina.
Jeremiah H. Johns was Justice of the Peace of the 509th District from 1825 through 1830. He and his family lived in Camden Co., GA prior to 1825, settling on lands south of the Satilla River. This became Charleton Co. in 1854 and is now Brantley Co. At his death, his death, his estate included 350 cattle and four lots of land, nos.78,79,143, and 115 in the 2nd District of old Wayne and other property. He was an active member of the High Bluff Baptist Church where the record shows that he attended the 1820 meeting of the Piedmont Baptist Association.
He is listed in Charlton County in 1870 Census living with son, Paul Columbus Johns and his wife George Anna. He and his wife are buried in the Bashlott Cemetery in Brantley County, Georgia.
Jeremiah H. Johns was the son of Jeremiah and Levicy Johns, and the grandson of Jacob and Patience Johns.
The elder Jeremiah Johns was born in Beaufort County, South Carolina in 1768. He and Levicy had five sons: George (b.1787), Silas (b.1796), Jeremiah H., William (b.1800), and James J.(b.1810).
Jacob Johns was born in Charleston County, South Carolina before 1840. He and Patience had nine children: Isaac (b.1760), John T. (b.1865), Jeremiah (b.1768), Levi (b.1770), William W. (b.1773), Cornelish (b.1780), Mary (b.1782), Sarah (1784), and Elizabeth (b.1786). Jacob died in 1817 at the age of 77.
