Marshall Jox obtained a law degree from the University of Chicago. He obtained a Master of Law degree from the University of Michigan. He was a member of the Indiana Bar Association. He practiced law for a short time in Chicago, then became a teaching lawyer - a professor at Valparaiso Law School in Valparaiso, Indiana. He is credited with authoring many law books, one being Lawyers Concise Guide to Trial Procedure, 1965, published by Prentice-Hall Inc., Englewood Cliffs, NJ. He taught law at Valparaiso for thirty-five years.
In 1964 Marshall experienced severe chest pains, diagnosed as an aortic aneurism. The condition was deemed too risky for an operation, yet he lived for five more years - even continuing his teaching. He died from surgery that was performed at Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital.
Bessie Derhammer Jox was the daughter of Rev. George Allen Derhammer of Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. She was born on December 2, 1905 in Wabash, Indiana. All their children were born in Valparaiso, Indiana.
