Martin Berg was eleven years old when he moved with his parents to Greensboro, North Carolina. He joined the army in the last year of World War I. After his discharge he moved to Florida where his sister Madge had moved earlier. It was Madge that introduced him to Bernice "Bunny" Stark. They lived in Tampa, then St. Petersburg, then again in Tampa where he was a salesman for a feed company. He and Bunny raised their family on a country place west of Tampa - an area called Sweetwater Creek - the site of many family gatherings. Martin suffered a massive stroke in 1951 and remained an invalid for the rest of his life.
