Sarah "Sally" Jox and her husband John Parsons were highschool sweethearts. They went to college together and both earned doctorate degrees in microbiology from Duke University. They spent three years in Switzerland following graduation to further their knowledge of cancer causing cells. They were working in cancer research at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville in 1993.
