Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ under construction... please come back soon!

  1. Where is Washington Parish on RootsWeb?

LAGenWeb, used to be hosted by RootsWeb under the USGenWeb Project. Washington Parish was never listed on the parish/county page under Louisiana on RootsWeb. And in fact, LAGenWeb moved their archives along with many USGenWeb state archives from RootsWeb to two seperate servers in 2008. LAGenWeb and USGenWeb are no longer on RootsWeb. You can find the Washington Parish archive pages of LAGenWeb/USGenWeb here.

  2. How can I add my information to USGenWeb?

Get Involved! We are looking for people to donate transcriptions of cemeteries, deeds, censuses, Bible records, etc. If you have a parish file you'd like to donate to help other genealogists and the USGenWeb Archives Project, submit it to http://www.genrecords.org/lafiles/ Louisiana Archives Submission Forms. For details on how to submit your files click here. It only takes a few minutes a day and it can help so many people.

  3. Where can I find copywrite information about USGenWeb?

Here is a statement from USGenWeb. And a link to the US Copywrite Government office.

  7. Where can I find Washington Parish family tree pages?

Washington Parish Family Histories - From LAGenWeb. (The link still works, however, the links on the page have moved and I have not taken the time to find them yet. If you know the correct URL, please let me know!)

  8. Where can I list my surnames?

RootsWeb has a submission form that will pair your surname with others like it and allow for others researching your surname to contact you. Read their surname submission guide, first at the following URL: RootsWeb Surname List

I would also utilize the message boards at RootsWeb and other genealogy message boards all over the internet.
