Joseph Hastings was born on 12 September 1657 at Watertown, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts.1,2 He was the son of Thomas Hastings and Margaret Cheney. Joseph Hastings married Ruth Rice, daughter of Matthew Rice and Martha Lamson, on 21 November 1682. Joseph Hastings married Martha Shepherd in January 1684. Joseph Hastings died on 7 October 1695 at age 38.2 His estate was probated; Inventory dated 22 Oct 1695 showed he had his father's homestead.
