Photograph of Hugh MacRae Williams.

Hugh MacRae Williams born 20 Dec 1860 in Cane Creek, Union County, N.C. He was the son of Dr. James Jonathan Williams and Mary Jane Draffin. On 25 Nov 1878 he married Nanny Lynn Crockett in Cane Creek, Union County, N.C. Together they had 11 children. The first 6 born in Cane Creek and the last 5 were born in Waxhaw Village, Union County, N.C. Hugh was a merchant and along with his father owned a store in Waxhaw. Later two Belk brothers bought in with James and Hugh and the store was renamed the Williams-Belk Store. Eventually both Williams's sold their shares to the Belks. After Nanny died Hugh married Della Gilmore. Hugh died 23 Oct 1924 in Sanford, Lee County, N.C. and is buried there in Buffalo Cemetery. He is my 5th great-grandfather.

Photograph of Nanny Lynn (Crockett) Williams.

Nanny Lynn Crockett was born 22 Feb 1860 in Lancaster District, S.C. and was the daughter of David McKenzie Crockett and Louisa Elvira Huey. She married Hugh MacRae Williams on 25 Nov 1878 in Cane Creek. Nanny died 4 Feb 1915 in Sanford, Lee County, N.C. and is buried in Buffalo Cemetery in Sanford. She is my 5th great-grandmother.
