Source: The Wilkes-Barre Record Thursday morning, August 1, 1895 page 7 Over a Score of Children Taken Off by the Disease During the Last Month - A Large increase in the Mortuary List. During July there were 94 deaths in Wilkes-Barre as against 112 for the same month last year, and 53 last month. The increase over last month is of course due to cholera infantum, that deadly disease among children, 30 of the little ones having been taken off during the month, as against 36 for the same month last year and not a single case during June of this year. In some cases two and three children in a family have been taken off by the disease. During July there were also 6 deaths from diptheria as against 6 for the same month last year, and 5 for June of this year. As there were only 7 cases of diptheria reported last month and 6 of those resulted in death the great mortality from the disease last month will be readily noted. Last month there were 2 deaths from typhoid fever, none in June and 2 in July of last year. As for other diseases they run about the same as last month and July of last year. There has been an epidemic of bowel complaint in Wilkes- Barre during the month combined with stomach disturbance and severe headache, but the cases were not fatal. Lockjaw- William F.
