1910 WB Record Almanac, Murders in 1909 The following information is posted for the sole purpose of family research within the Yahoo Group, The Court House Gang. MURDERS DURING 1909. There were 15 murders in Luzerne county during 1909, as against nineteen in 1908. In 1907 there were fourteen murders and two suspicious deaths. In 1906 there were thirteen murders and two suspicious deaths. In 1905 there were twelve murders and two suspicious deaths. In 1904 there were eight murders and in 1903 there were ten. The record for 1909 was as follows: January 22 Adam Rushinsky of Kingston died from a bullet wound sustained at a wedding celebration January 19. Constable Michael Mas-lowskie plead guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to eight years. January 21 Daniel E. Griffith of Edwardsville, a traction company motor-man, died of bullet wounds sustained January 14. He was shot without provocation while on his way home in the early morning. The cause of the crime is not known. February 8 Mike Garuck was shot at Brookside in Wilkes-Barre after a wedding celebration. A foreigner who was arrested was acquitted on the ground of self defense. February 24 Stephen Tennant of Pittston died of a bullet wound Inflicted the day previous, it being alleged in his wife's behalf that he had made an attack upon her. February 27 Anthony Uscavitch of Exeter, 24 years, was shot as the result of a quarrel following a neighbor's gathering. Michael Bernesky was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to nine years. March 7 Tony Affricano, of Pittston, about 35 years old, was shot arid killed during a dispute as to who should go for some beer. Gitano Feoreto was convicted of murder in the second degree and sentenced to twenty years. March 12 Harry Lauderbach of Upper Lehigh died of stab wounds sustained February 27, having been assaulted by a party or parties unknown. April 14 Danko Mechack of Brook-side, Wilkes-Barre, died of stab wounds sustained the 12th during a quarrel at a boarding house. Metso Bulllck pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced, under the new law, to not less than three years and1 not more than twelve years. April 18 Adam Kidok of Dupont died of stab wound Inflicted a week pre vious during a quarrel. Mrs. Kate Tetlock was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to three years. June 1 the coroner's jury found that Anthony Daniels, whose body was found in his home at Georgetown after the home had been destroyed by fire May 16 came to his death in an unknown manner but that there was suspicion of foul play. June 18 Anthony Canavan of Parsons died as the result of being shot in the leg by an Italian with whom he had been engaged in a trival dispute. July 3 Frank Mucillo of Hazleton died from stab wounds inflicted June 29 by a fellow countryman without apparent cause. In July Morello Resarlo of Pittston was found dead after having been ejected from a dance. There was suspicion of suicide for feaŁ of arrest but the coroner's jury was of the opinion that he was shot by some person or persons unknown. August 10 Philip Richards of Edwardsville was shot to death while at his work In a colliery engine house at that place by Michael Baab for alleged domestic reasons. August 20 George L. Marion of New York City shot and Instantly killed, in the office of the chief of police In Wllkes-Barre, a woman with whom he had been living and who refused to go back to him. The conversation took place In the office of the chief and when she produced a marriage certificate showing that she had been married to another man, he killed her. He was placed under arrest. John J. Rogers of Pittston died December 11 of bullet wound Inflicted by an Italian who called him to the door of the house at which he was calling; cause unknown.
