Capital Crimes in 1945 The following information is posted for the sole purpose of family research within the Yahoo Group, The Court House Gang. There were two capitol crimes (murder) committed in Luzerne County in 1945. Each alleged slayer was convicted. Raymond MEHOLCHICK, 20 woodchopper, was accused of causing the death or Mrs Mary ULOZAS, 29, wife of Bernard Ulozas, U.S. sailor, in a ravine at Plymouth on the morning of February 7. The body was found the following morning. Meholchick was convicted of first degree murder, the jury fixing life imprisonment as the penalty. He is in Eastern Penitentiary. Jeddle Louis HOWELLS, 15, East End Boulevard section, was accused of using a rifle to kill Willard FREY, Wilkes-Barre, at a spot along the boulevard on August 11. Howells escaped in Frey’s automobile but was arrested the next day. He was convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to serve from 10 to 20 years. He was sent to a boy’s industrial school until he reaches 18,when he will be committed to Eastern Penitentiary. Typed by Dianne Corby, May 2004
