Old Tobacco Barn

Photo taken in the early 1940's

Photos above & below were taken in the summer 2002

This barn is one of the 3 original buildings located on thd 2 1/4 acres of land my grandfather, W. D. Barnhill purchased from Wm. Glisson Wallace in on Jan. 25, 1926. It stood to the right of their property as you faced it from the highway and was just across the ditch from the highway. I remember this barn being used by mygrandfather to cure tobacco. As a child, I, along with my uncle Paul, my brother and cousin would pick green apples from grandma's apple trees and place them under the hot coals to bake.

There was also a corn barn/crib located out back past my grandparents home. Behind this building, but attached as enclosures where a cow and a couple of horses were kept at one time.

Another building, which I believe was lived in at one time, also stood out back to the right of the corn barn. I remember it had wooden shutters that opened to let air and light in. It was used for storage at the time.
