The church was formally dedicated March 20. 1896 by the Right Rev. A. A. Watson,
Bishop of the Diocese, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Wooten, the pastor and the Rev. Dr.
Strange and Rev. Mr. Skinner of Wilmington.
Mrs. Virginia Russ Hawes was interested in her children attending an Episcopal church
and since there wasn't one available, she had timber cut down from her property and had
a church built in her yard. Services were held from 1896 until 1950.
