Obituary 6 Jan 2016 Quinn Mcowen Roland Thomas Horrell, 71, of Atkinson passed peacefully from his earthly life on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCare Center. He was born December 25, 1944 in Pender County, the son of the late Roderick Thomas and Clara Barnhill Horrell. Also remembered are his beloved wife, Jo Ann Abrams Horrell and brother, Raymond Horrell, both who preceded Tommy in death. Tommy is survived by his sons, Ricky Horrell (Sherry) and Nick Horrell (Christine); grandchildren, Ethan Horrell, Brianna Horrell and Nicholas Horrell; sister, Sara Jane Lanier (Earl); sister-in-law, Julie Horrell Burns (Bill); and many extended family and friends. Tommy was retired after working 36 years with International Paper Company. He was a member of Atkinson Baptist Church, Atkinson Lodge No. 612 A.F. & A.M., Pender County Shrine Club and Scottish Rite Bodies. Tommy was a great and caring husband, daddy, granddaddy, brother and friend. Having a lengthy illness, Tommy managed his life well, always with a smile and rarely a complaint. In his later years he began each day with Bible reading and prayer. Always thoughtful of others, Tommy's faith shined forth in his life. Tommy was most thankful for his family and friends who visited often and generously shared meals and acts of kindness with him. He is now breathing easily and walking the street of gold with Jo Ann in God's heavenly kingdom. The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw. Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Atkinson Cemetery with the Rev. Tommy Kelly officiating. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 10. Masonic Rites will be accorded by Atkinson Lodge No. 612 A.F. & A.M.
