7 APRIL 1837, Friday


On Friday the 31st ultimo, at her house in Lemon-street, Truro, Mrs. Jenkins, relict of Sylvanus Jenkins, Esq. in the 77th year of her age � much and deservedly respected � her last thoughts were placed on her blessed Saviour, through whom she was enabled to support the protracted sufferings of death with that placid frame of mind and submission to the divine will, for which she had been through a long life distinguished.

At the Rectory, Truro, the infant daughter of the Rev. Edward Dix.

At Truro, on Sunday last, the wife of Mr. Doubleday, aged 33 years.

At Bodmin, on Wednesday last, after a long and painful illness, Mary, eldest daughter of James Kempthorne, Esq. aged 25 years.

At Sheerness, on the 30th ult., Nancy, wife of the Rev. John Kirby, and sister of the Rev. Joseph Fayrer, of St. Teath, having left six young children to deplore their irreparable loss. The remembrance of her amiable and charitable disposition will be long cherished by her friends. Her end was peaceful and happy.

On Tuesday, at Rock-house, St. Day, the infant son of R. Clift, Esq.

On Monday last, aged 81, Mrs. Wallis, widow of the late Mr. James Wallis, for many years an officer of H. M. Customs at St. Ives.

At Marazion, on the 1st instant, Tremenheere Tilly, eldest daughter of the late Mr. G. Tilly, aged 17 years.

At Padstow, on Saturday last, after a lingering illness, Mrs. Elizabeth Retallack, at an advanced age.

On the 25th ultimo, at Tregony, Martha Burley, aged 78 years, nearly forty six of which she had been a great sufferer from running a thorn in her leg.

On the 26th ult, at Tregony, universally respected and beloved by all who knew her, Mrs. Bennett, aged 73 years; her end was peace.

On Friday last, at St. Austell, aged 69 years, Mrs. Carbis, wife of Mr. Carbis, of the office of Coode and Sons. Also on Sunday, aged 79 years, Miss Mary Vining, sister of Mrs. Price of the White Hart Inn.

On the 27th ult. at Pencoorse farm, in the parish of Cuby, Mrs. Whitley, aged 76 years; also, on Thursday last, at High-lanes, in the same parish, the wife of Mr. Wm. Roberts, smith, aged 47 years.

At Helston, on Friday, after a few days illness, the wife of Mr. Dennis Reed, fellmonger, aged 25 years.

At Penzance, on Saturday last, Mr. Gosset, aged 67 years. On the 30th ultimo, at Penzance, Mrs. Dinah Bodilly, aged 74 years, relict of the late Mr. Richard Bodilly, of the Fire Engine Inn, of that town � deeply lamented by all her family, and regretted by a large circle of friends who had the pleasure of her acquaintance, her end was peace.

At Liskeard, on Friday last, Mr. Tremayne, hatter, in his 102nd year. Within a year of his death, he fetched water from the well for his use.

On Wednesday last, at Truro, after a painful illness, Mr. Philip Ball, watch-maker; respected by all who knew him.

At her mother's house, Francis-street, Truro, Mrs. Philippa James, aged 40 years.

At St. Austell, on Monday last, Mr. John Ley, hatter, aged 78 years.

Also, on Tuesday last, M. Walter Pomeroy, aged 78 years; for many years a member of the Independent church in that town.

At St. Austell, on Friday last, Mary Jane, second daughter of Mr. Ball, Golden Lion Inn, aged 2 years.

At Redruth, on Saturday morning, Mr. Samuel Martin, aged 81 years. Mr. Martin had been 52 years a member of the Methodist Society, and immediately succeeded the leader appointed by Mr. Wesley, in conducting the first class formed in Redruth. To the end of his life, he retained the affectionate regards of his church, and he died in humble confidence of his acceptance with his Divine Master.

At Gwennap, on Thursday the 6th instant, Mr. James Powning, merchant, aged 81 years.

At Trefarda, near Camelford, of consumption, Caroline, daughter of Mr. Edward Seccombe, aged 26 years.

At Fowey last week, Capt. Samuel Langmaid, of the sloop "Industry" aged 68 years; he was much respected and is deeply lamented.

Also, Miss Elizabeth M. Batters, after three days' illness, aged 23 years; and Mr. John Scollier, aged 80 years.

At Hayle, on Saturday last, Thomas, infant son of the Rev. J. Pratten, Wesleyan Minister.

At St. Ives on Tuesday last, Mary Williams, widow of the late Clement Williams, aged 74 years.

On Monday, the 10th instant, at Launceston, Abraham Morris, Esq. aged 77 years, formerly of Poplar Cottage, Exeter.

At Falmouth, on Wednesday last, the wife of Mr. W. Hoskins, plumber &c, after a few days illness, leaving a family of eight young children to lament their loss.

At Falmouth, on Sunday last, Mr. Harding, of H. M. Customs, aged 37 years.

At Falmouth, on Sunday last, the infant son of Mr. Jas. W. Lake.

In London, Mr. Thomas Roberts, aged 54 years, late of St. Stephens in Branwell.

On Friday, the 14th instant, at Truro, Mr. John Davey, for many years minister of the Ebenezer Independent Chapel. He calmly awaited approaching death as an enemy divested of its sting, and without a struggle resigned his spirit into the hands of God.

On Sunday last, at Truro, the infant son of Mr. Roberts, leather cutter.

At Redruth, on Monday last, Mr. Wm. Michell, many years cashier of the Freemans Copper Co. Mr. Michell was an exemplary Member of the Methodist Society, and was generally respected and beloved.

On the 12th instant, at her father's residence, Penvergate, Margaret Ball, the wife of Mr. Robert Scantlebury, draper, Megavissey, after a long and painful illness, which she bore with truly Christian resignation, sincerely and deservedly lamented by her family and a numerous circle of friends. Aged 34 years. Her end was peace.

At Launceston, on the 9th instant, Mrs. Willard.

At Bristol, on the 3rd instant, of apoplexy, Mary, wife of Mr. John Rosevear, aged 55 years, late of Camelford.

At West Looe, on the 16th instant, Anthony Geeves, Esq. aged 81 years.

At Fowey, last week, Mr. John Pearn.

After a few days illness, Miss Elizabeth Lloyd, of Fowey, aged 20 years.

On Saturday last, at Fowey, after a lingering illness, Mr. R. Puckey, blacksmith &c, aged 74 years.

On Tuesday morning last, at Fowey, after a short illness, Miss Jane Butters, aged 18 years.

On the 13th instant, at Chynoweth, in the parish of Cubert, Mrs. Hitchens, aged 61 years; for many years a member of that Wesleyan Connexion.

Suddenly, at Bodmin, on Tuesday last, aged 75 years, Mr. Francis Bellringer, formerly a draper of that place.

At Lident, near Bodmin, on the 6th instant, Mr. Thomas Baron, aged 74 years; much respected by all who knew him.

At Camborne, on Thursday, the 13th instant, Mr. Allen, aged 63 years; also, the wife of Mr. A. Rawlings, aged 33 years.

On the 10th instant, at Redruth, Mrs. Mary Bray, aged 68 years.

At Manaccan, Capt. Kempthorne, aged 81 years.

At Polkerris, on the 10th instant, Mary, wife of Mr. William Bennetts, aged 52 years, deeply lamented by all who knew her.

At Charlestown, on Sunday last, Mrs. Pelmounter, late of St. Enoder, aged 70 years.

On the 18th instant, at Holmbush, William, the son of Mr. Manley, aged 5 years.

At Penryn, on Saturday last, Mr. John Symons, surgeon, aged 67 years.

On Saturday last, at Linkinhorne, Mr. T. Stanning, auctioneer, aged 72 years.

At Callington, April the 13th, Mr. C. Wenmough, aged 51 years.

On Tuesday, the 11th instant, at Longton, aged 39 years, after a short but severe illness, the Rev. John Edmonds, Wesleyan Minister, formerly of St. Buryan, near Penzance.� He had been a member 23 and a minister 14 years of the Wesleyan Methodist connexion.� As a Christian he was a man of deep and fervent piety, unaffected humility, and uniform consistency; as a friend he was interesting, ingenuous, and kind; and as a minister, zealous, faithful, and affectionate.... A vast concourse assembled to witness the interment, at Longton church, on the 14th instant, which was attended by numbers of office bearers and members in the Wesleyan connexion, anxious to pay a tribute of respect to the memory of their departed minister.

At St. Austell, on Wednesday last, of small-pox, aged 35 years, Rebecca, the amiable and beloved wife of Thomas Coode, Esq.� It has seldom, if ever, fallen to our lot to record a more melancholy event than the present; an event which has plunged not only the immediate relatives of the deceased in mourning, but in which every individual in town seems interested.� Mrs. Coode was universally esteemed for her suavity of manners and generous disposition; and the poor and needy will long lament the loss of one who was never deaf to their calls, but who unostentatiously supplied their wants.�... Her illness was short, but from the nature of the disease, severe.

At Truro, on Monday last, after an illness of nearly two years, Maria, only daughter of the late Mr. Hill, printer, aged 18 years.

At Truro, on Sunday last, Frederick, second son of Mr. Elisha Randall, pipe manufacturer, aged 12 years.

On the 21st instant, at Charlestown, after a protracted illness, universally respected and beloved by all who know him, Mr. William P. Banks, ship-builder, aged 61 years.

At Fowey, on the 21st instant, after a lingering and painful illness, which she bore with Christian fortitude and resignation, Mrs. Hearle, wife of Capt. Hearle, R.N. aged 57 years.� Her end was peace.

On Tuesday last, at Fowey, Susan Hoal, youngest daughter of Mr. J. Thomas, of the Lugger Inn.

Suddenly, last week, at Padstow, Mr. Wm. Davis, pilot, aged 39 years; also, after a lingering illness, Mr. James Kenor, aged 57 years.

At Tregajerran, in Illogan, on Wednesday last, the beloved wife of Mr. W. Carthew.

At sea, on his voyage to Mexico, Lieut. Moore, commander of H. M. Packet "Delight", leaving a widow and a numerous family to lament their loss.

At Penryn, on Wednesday last, Mr. John Spry, aged 51 years.� And on the same day, Mr. Joseph Robins, butcher, aged 59 years.

On Tuesday last, at Penryn, Betty Gooding, at the advanced age of 103 years.�The deceased was able to read without his[sic] spectacles, and was able to walk about till within a few days of her death.

At St. Ives, on the 24th, Judith Hingston, aged 31 years.� also, Lydia Daniell, wife of Captain Robert Daniell, of the brig "William and Mary", of this port, aged 23 years.

On Friday last, at Polruan, Mrs. Geach, aged 81 years, who fell down her steps� and was so injured she instantly expired.
