At Okehampton, Devon, on the 27th ult., Grace, relict of the late Mr. Richard PETER, saddler, of Callington. The deceased has held the office of postmistress at Callington for several years.
At Umballah, in the East Indies, on the 18th of July last, aged 25 years, Lieut. Francis GILBERT, second son of the late Capt. Edmund GILBERT, R. N., under the following melancholy circumstances. He was on duty at Umballah, and in endeavouring to extinguish a fire which had broken out in some of the Seapoy's huts, his foot slipped, and he fell upright into the flames. He was soon taken out in a stste of insensibility, but died in a few minutes. The deceased was a very promising young officer, and much regretted by his brother officers. He was aide-de-camp to his uncle, Sir Walter Raleigh GILBERT, and was present with him in most of the battles of the Punjab.
At Madras, E. I., on the 26th of July last, after a long and severe illness, Joseph APPLETON, Esq., M.D., aged 32 years. His loss is deeply regretted by those who had the pleasure of his acquaintance.

At St. Austell, on the 4th instant, from spasmodic cholera, after a few hours of intense physical suffering, Mr. Thomas BELL, principal manager of the Great Polgooth Tin Mine. This gentleman, we conceive, requires some further notice than a mere obituary register. His loss, we fear, will be severely felt by the industrial mining population of his district. He was the means of the restoration of the Great Polgooth Mines, after being wholly abandoned by their former proprietary. These tin mines are now the most productive in the county, and employ about a thousand individuals. Mr. BELL possessed a strong and vigorous intellect, undaunted nerve, and unflinching perseverance; and in spite of the most insuperable obstacles thrown in his way, by disappointed and interested parties, he was signally sucessful in developing not only the metallic treasures of the above ancient mine, but if life had been spared, there is little doubt he would still further have thrown open the capabilities of the splendid mineral and mining district of St. Austell. It is too often the case that many of our sucessful mining, railway, and manufacturing magnates assume personal hauteur, or aristocratical reserve towards their less fortunate companions or dependents. Such was not Mr. BELL's character; he never divested himself of his natural, open-hearted freedom, and agreeable suavity of manners. He was, we believe, a native of the great northern border county of Northumberland, and in early life practically informed himself of some of its varied mining and mineral resources.

Lately in Jersey, Theophilus BEAUCHANT, Esq., of the Royal Marine Artillery. Mr. BEAUCHANT was for many years resident in Falmouth, and once filled the office of first magistrate of that town. During his period of office he materially improved its condition by a careful and judicious attention to its several local acquirements; to him also the inhabitants are wholly indebted for the projecting and building of the classical school in that town, an establishment that, by mismanagement, unfortunately frustrated the expectations he had nobly entertained of its being a public good. Mr. BEAUCHANT has left a widow and several children to lament their loss.
