At Truro, on Friday last, after a long and severe illness, and greatly respected by every one who knew him, Commander John HIATT, aged 68 years. He entered the Navy as a volunteer at a very early age, and was a Midshipman on board the "Namur," of Cape St. Vincent in 1797, and served in boats of that ship at the bombardment of Cadiz, and in various actions with gun-boats and batteries during the blockade of that port. He was Lieutenant of the "Theseus" at the evacuation of St. Domingo by the French and took part in the capture of "Dequesne,"[?] "Creole," "Clorinde," and other ships having French troops on board at Capt Nicholas Mole, 1801. Commander Hiatt also commanded a boat at the attack on Curaqui[?] in 1804.
