[I think these are records transcribed from micro-film by Bea ALLISON in Columbia, MO and she in turn, shared them with Nora O. REED and Nora shared them with me.

No newspaper named, but think in the late 1800s and  early 1900s the newspaper in Wayne County, [Greenville, Piedmont & surrounding communities], was then called The GREENVILLE SUN? Dwc

THURSDAY – 9^th January 1896

            Born to the wife of ZEDE McGHEE on the 5^th January 1896, a fine 9 pound son.

THURSDAY – 16^th February 1896

            Born to MR. & MRS. ED BARROW, last Saturday, a fine son, thus another Republican arrives to “stand up for Missouri.”

THURSDAY – 19^th March 1896

            MRS. MARY WHITE, wife of JACKSON WHITE near Bounds, died Monday, the remains were interred in the Bounds Cemetery on Tuesday.  The funeral services were conducted by Rev., J. A. MEADOR and Rev. M. DAVIS.  A large number of friends and mourners followed the casket to it’s last resting place, showing a most high estimation of their departed friend.  The “SUN” sympathizes with the bereaved.

Note:  [This obituary is confusing.  Mrs. Mary (Twidwell) White, was b. 18^th Dec 1857 in Greenville and d. on the 16^th , March 1896.  She was a d/o Rev. A.G. & Elizabeth (Heath) Twidwell, yet cemetery records show she was buried in the New Prospect Church Cemetery, her father’s church, under her maiden name, but listed as the w/o A. J. White?  Mary T. Twidwell White was one of my paternal great-grandmothers.  Dwc]

THURSDAY – 28^th May 1896

            MRS. C. E. HARRISON of Peach Tree Fork, died Friday, 22^nd May 1896.  She was born on Bear Creek, the 25^th May 1846, a daughter of JAMES & ELIZABETH WIGGINS; md. ISAAC B. HARRISON, the 24^th Aug 1868.  She died of peritonitis.  Her father died when she was 2 years old.  She leaves her husband and 3 children.  Funeral conducted by Rev., I. D. WATSON at the cemetery.[?] on May 26^th.

THURSDAY – 10^th September 1896

            MRS. BELLE JULIAN of this place, died at Williamsville, Saturday the 5^th September 1896.  Her remains were laid to rest in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

THURSDAY – 5^th November 1896

            MRS. MINNIE L. WHITE MANNING, died at her home east of Greenville, 9^th Oct 1896, aged:  22y,11d.  She was born in Mulberry Grove, Bond County, Illinois and lived in that county until November of 1893, when she moved to Greenville and md. SAMUEL D. MANNING the 30^th May 1894 and was a devoted and loving wife. 

            HENRY SHOEMAKER died at home on Peach Tree Fork the 10^th October 1896.  “Uncle Henry,” as he was generally called, was born in Germany about the year of 1840 and came to this country when he was 17 years of age.  He served three years during the Civil War in the 14^th INDIANA Infantry Regiment and was in about 30 battles.

THURSDAY – 14^th September 1899

            ANNIE HESTER TAYLOR, the second daughter of W. R. & MAUDE DEMPSTER TAYLOR, born 17^th Sept 1894 in Clark County, Illinois and died 5^th Sep 1899 near Hendrickson, MO.  Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery with Rev. KINGEN officiating.

THURSDAY -- October 5^th 1899                

            MRS MARY CARPENTER died Wednesday, September 27^th 1899, aged 31y, 10m, 5 d.  She was the daughter of J. K. and Asa ROBINSON; md. JOHN CARPENTER in March of 1892, burial in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.

THURSDAY – 15^th October 1899

     Mrs. SARAH WILFONG, aged 63, died 25^th Sept 1899 at the County Poor Farm.  She was the widow of Rev., WILFONG a General Baptist Minister.  The remains were interred in the A. R. L. Meador Cemetery.

THURSDAY – 5^th November 1899

            JAMES ALEXANDER HALE, b. 13^th November 1889; died 30^th October 1899 at the Lost Creek home.  Aged 9y, 11m, 7d.

            BLANCHE RANEY, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs.  J. H. RANEY, born 11^th May 1880 at Greenville; died 2^nd January 1900, aged:  19y, 7m, 21d.  Burial was at the Masonic Cemetery.

            SAM CARLTON was the father of MRS. U. L. McGEE.

THURSDAY – 14^th February 1901

            Captain PINCKNEY L. POWERS, another old land mark of Southeast MO and particularly of Wayne County, died Thursday of last week at the residence of his son, near Des Arc.  [d. abt. 08, Feb 1901?] 

            Captain Powers was born in 1823 in Lincoln Co, NC, and was 78 years of age, had been a resident of this county most all of his life and was known by nearly every citizen of the county as a respected and honorable man.

            At the beginning of the Civil War, Capt., Powers espoused the cause of the Union and took a very active part in getting recruits for the army.  He was a brave patriotic soldier and made captain.  In the 1860s he was elected to the state legislature and served the people with credit.  After the close of the War he cast his lot with the Democrats, but never aspired to political honors.  All in all he was a very good man and citizen and to his remains we say rest in peace.

THURSDAY – 21^st February 1901

            MRS SABRA HALE, wife of JAMES J. HALE, died at her home near Chaonia on Monday, 21^st of January 1901, aged 40y, 11m, 29d.  Leaves a husband and 7 children.

THURSDAY – 28^th Febraury 1901

            MRS LOUISIANA MISSOURI STRICKLAND died 11^th February 1901, aged 40y, 3m., wife of JOHN A. STRICKLAND.  Buried at the Estes Cemetery, leaves husband & 5 children.

THURSDAY – 21^st May 1901

            THOMAS  RUBOTTOM, b. 11^th Nov 1827; died 18^th May 1908, aged 80 y, 6m, 7d.  He md. (1) in 1851 to MARY COX and they had one boy and one girl, with the boy dying in infancy.  The girl grew up and married J. A. STEPHENS.  MARY COX RUBOTTOM died in the Fall of 1856 and Thomas md. (2) DELILAH CREASY, they had two boys, both dying in infancy and Delilah died in 1872.  He md. (3) SARAH E. WALKER, (six yrs after Delilah died).  He and Sarah had 5 boys and 1 girl with the girl dying in infancy.  He lost his 3^rd wife in the 1880s.  He md. (4) MELISSA J. McGHEE in 1890.  Thomas was buried at the Little Lake Cem., not more than 200 yards from where he was born.  He was the son of JUDGE RUBOTTOM.  He was converted the 16^th of Feb 1892 and became a member of the Greenville Baptist Church.

THURSDAY – 18^th September 1902

A. J.  STOKELY died 6^th September 1902, he was born the 15^th September 1850

in Tennessee and was married the 27^th Oct 1875 to MISS LOUISA HANNAPEL and had 10 children.  He was buried at the family cemetery near Taskee.

THURSDAY – 15^th January 1903

            DANIEL A. ZEIGLER died suddenly Monday morning about 6:AM of apoplexy or heart trouble.  He had just eaten his breakfast and started to work as a day hostler on the railroad when stricken down.  Mr. ZIELGLER 47y, 8m, 11d.  He was a native of Pennsylvania and had been a resident of Piedmont for  about 25 years.  He leaves a wife and 4 children, 3 girls and a boy.  Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery.
