Welcome to the Weems Photo site!

We will be posting old photographs of members of the Weems  family and related lines.

Our family is descended from William Lock Weems IV of Hickman County Tennessee who came from Maryland in about 1825.  He founded the Bon Aqua Springs Resort.  After his death, the springs and farming land became the property of his youngest son Phillip Van Horn Weems (II) (1828 to 1864) He operated the springs complex until the outbreak of the Civil War.  He enlisted in Captain Bateman's Company of the 11th Tennessee Infantry on May 14th, 1861 in Nashville and on June 6 he was elected Captain of Company H of the 11th Regiment.  In 1864 he was promoted to Major.  He served as Acting Colonel in command of a battalion in the 11th Regiment during the long withdrawal from Chattanooga, Tennessee to Atlanta, Georgia in 1864. On July 22, 1864 "he was mortally wounded in the charge upon the enemy's fortified position near Atlanta."
