The family history presented here was researched my my third cousin once removed, Anthony Mackenzie Mills, to whom I am extremely grateful not only for the data but also for introducing me to "Dolly" Dalby Harrison (nee McKenzie) another third cousin once removed and her research into the early McKenzie's.
The RAINE's are a well known family in and around Romaldkirk, some were wealthy landowners in the 19th century and many of whom are buried in Laithkirk churchyard along with my 3*great grandfather George McKenzie and his wife Isabella Losh.
The background to the RAINE pages is Laithkirk church, formerly a chalpelry of Romaldkirk, but now a parish church itslef. It is set on a hillside and the surrounding countryside is truly magnificent and includes the highest waterfall in England at High Force.
