Welcome to the Whyte family website!!
Introduction from the author.........

Within these pages are the result of my discoveries whilst searching for the whereabouts of my father. I have found a number of ancesters whose stories I found interesting so I decided to create a website to share them with the rest of the world.
As the site develops I intend to add further pages with other interesting stories and family trees which may help others who find their ancestors are linked to mine.

I started this family tree when in 2005 I decided to try and find out if my father was still alive. I was born in Canada and my mother died when I was 18 months old, my father remarried and I have had no contact with him since about 1960. I have two sisters and a half brother.  I was 8 years old, when he left us with our stepmother and went back to Canada on his own.

I had very little information other than a copy of my fathers Irish birth certificate . After joining Genes Reunited,  in January 2006 I was contacted by a cousin who gave me some information on my fathers side of the family.  I did not know my father had 2 sisters and a brother, one sister is still alive and in her late 80's.

I am in the process of sorting all the information obtained to date.  I have visited the family home in Barnstaple which is now a nursing home. There has been sadness and tragedy in the family and I hope to add more information to the tree shortly

I am currently searching for information of the Whyte family life in Ireland and of my fathers life in Canada from 1960 to when he died in 1998.  Any information that anyone has would be greatly appreciated, please contact me using the "Contact me" button below.

The family owned Hatley Manor in Carrick on Shannon and Newtown Manor in County Leitrim,  Ireland and also owned Pilton House and land in Pilton near Barnstaple, Devon.

Using this information I searched GRO indexes, Burkes Peerage & Landed Gentry, libraries and websites and have since been contacted by and also contacted  people connected to my ancestors.  Through the marriages of my 3rd and 4th Great Grandfather I am able to trace ancestors back to William the Conqueror and Alfred the Great.   My 3rd Great Grandfather married Frances Beresford, and her lineage is: Le Power ( De La Poer), Butler, Fitzgerald, De Bohun,  De Burgh (De Burgo) Plantagenet, the 4th Great Grandfather married Gertrude Gee and her lineage is Lennard, Parker, Fiennes, Sutton, Bourchier (Bouchier), Plantagenet, De Bohun.

Two of my Grand Aunts married into the Hambro Banking family.
