Sometimes
the answers to these questions will help to provide more than a name on a chart
of ancestors. The more we find out about the person, the place and the
time they lived, the better picture we can develop to include with the
name on the chart. It is with this goal in mind that we offer to share
the history of Wilkins who we believe sailed from England, first to the Eastern
coast, the state of Virginia, and moved on to North Carolina, Georgia,
Arkansas, Oklahoma, Idaho, and Washington on the Western Coast of the
USA. Sometimes young families set out together, sometimes several
generations moved together. Some families would only travel for part of the migration;
other families would go on further past the intended destination.
A group of researchers out of
The Revolutionary War veteran, Thomas Wilkins, who died in
Cleveland Co., NC in 1844 is believed to be the son of
William and Sarah Averett Wilkins.
This conclusion was reached via a process of elimination –
that is, John Wilkins son Thomas had only one known son, John, who disappeared
from the records of Mecklenburg Co., Virginia, during the mid-1780’s, John’s
son James had only one son, Charles, who relocated to Rutherford Co., NC, and
all his children are believed to have been in that area, John’s son Richard
moved to Granville Co., NC in the 1770’s and all of his children are believed
to have been there also.
Of John and Mary Wilkins’ known sons, only William and his
wife Sarah Averett Wilkins remained in

Wilkins’ sons who remained in Southside

Several GEDCOM's I have reviewed suggest that John Wilkins and
Elizabeth Haynie
might be the parents of John Thomas Wilkins also known as Thomas Wilkins SR.
