I have set up this group project in order to help identify related WILLIAMSONS. There are many Williamson families with different countries of origin; therefore, surnames WILLIAMSE and WILLEMSEN will be included in the study. I encourage anyone with the above surnames to consider participating. I will be the group administrator and will act as single point contact for this group.

HOW IT WORKS

We will be using a company called Family Tree DNA to handle the details of sending test kits, recording results and comparing results. Please use the link to browse the Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) web site to become familiar with the company and the genetics involved.

Family Tree DNA has established a protocol that allows a group administrator to handle the routine data management for the group, thereby reducing the cost of the testing. To receive the benefits of the reduced cost of $99 + mailing fee, we must have a minimum of 6 participants.

Family Tree DNA will distribute legal release forms allowing for the sharing of the test results with me. I will have access to a secure page where the project’s status is updated daily.

Test kits and payments may be submitted individually or as a group to FTDNA for processing.

Test results will be returned to the Group Administrator as they are received by the office. Each participant will also receive a certificate and report containing their personal test results. The staff of FTDNA will help you interpret the meaning of your test results.

Legal Issues

Family Tree DNA follows the most stringent guidelines for privacy. ---FTDNA controls the Surnames Database Library and test scores, while the University of Arizona controls and maintains your genetic assets on our behalf. Therefore, there is a double safety net. The first is maintained by Family Tree DNA according to State legislation guidelines and the other is maintained by the University of Arizona; which is bound by both State and Federal privacy and confidentiality legislation.

Family Tree DNA accepts the responsibility to keep your specific data private, at the same time, making enough general information public to allow us to build a Surnames Database library to be used for genealogical purposes.

If you have a WILLIAMSON surname you may join by going to this web site.
