ALPHONSO PAUL ORRICK JR.

Paul was born March 7, 1910 in Canton, Miss., a son of Alphonse Paul Orrick Sr. and Martha George Stinson. He died May 27, 1974 in Temple, Texas. His body was donated to Baylor University for medical research. He married Mae Irene Stoner on Oct. 26, 1941 in Cedar Rapids. They had two daughters, both Living.
Paul served in the U.S. Army and Army Air Corps during World War II (1941-1945). His overseas duty was in the China-Burma-India Theater from July 1944 to November 1945. A staff sergeant, he was stationed with the 2059th Ordnance Section at Morrison Field, West Palm Beach, Fla.

brother, Nicholas Cromwell Orrick III: Cromwell was born Jan. 2, 1914, in Canton, Miss. He died Dec. 30, 1959, in Oak Ridge, Tenn., where he is buried. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Dandridge Bloxton (Living) on May 29, 1941, in Memphis, Tenn. They had four children: two daughters and two sons; a daughter, Betty Dandridge Orrick Sapp is deceased.

Third Generation
ALPHONSE PAUL "Fonso" ORRICK SR.


Fonso was born in early to mid 1860s, in Canton, Miss., a son of Nicholas Cromwell Orrick and Mary Semmes. He died in July 1928. It appears he is buried within the Semmes plot, Canton Cemetery, Canton, Miss. He married Martha George Stinson on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 1900, in Canton, Miss.

brother, Eugene Cromwell Orrick: Born Jan. 3, 1864, in Canton, Miss. He died in 1912. He had six children: (1) Joseph Terrell Orrick; (2) James Nicholas Orrick (deceased 1960); (3) Mary Mhoon Orrick Farmer (deceased July 18, 1966); (4) Eugenia Semmes Orrick Morris; (5) Ella Lena Orrick (deceased as child); (6) Elizabeth Bailey Orrick (deceased as child). He was senior member of Orrick & Baker, a very prominent law firm of Indianola, Sunflower County, Miss. Attended Notre Dame University, Notre Dame, Ind., graduating with high honors in 1882. Admitted to the bar in 1884 in Canton, Miss., where he practiced for about a year; then set up a practice in Indianola with his partner, J.H. Baker. Was a staunch Democrat, chairman of county executive committee, superintendent of public education.
sister, Lucy Semmes Orrick: Was a poet. Died in 1948 in Chicago, Illinois.
sister, Mary Sabina Orrick: Died in 1950 in Chicago, Illinois. Married a Mr. Hammond. They had five children: (1) Madeline Hammond Kinsman (deceased 1949/1950), who had a daughter, Sabina Kinsman; (2) John Jerome Hammond (deceased 1963), who had a son, Granville Semmes Hammond; (3) Lucy Hammond Weaver; (4) Granville Semmes Hammond (unknown, presumed deceased), who had a daughter, Carol Lynn Hammond; (5) Mary Semmes Hammond Buford, who had two children, Mary Semmes Buford Crespo and Robert A. Buford Jr.
sister, Mary Pauline Orrick: Died in December 1965.
sister, Mary Louise Orrick: Died in the 1940s or 1950s. Married a Mr. Binyon. They had seven children: (1)Lila Binyon Joy (deceased 1969); (2) Mary Semmes Todd; (3) Martha Binyon Woodbury (Lindon); (4) Lucy Binyon Stude (deceased 1956), who had two children, Louisa Stude Sarofim and Micajah Stude; (5) Eugene O. Binyon; (6) Nicholas Binyon; (7) William Judson Binyon (deceased February 1966).
sister, Mary Edna Orrick: Died in 1901.
sister, Cecelia Madeleine (or Madeleine Cecelia) Orrick: Born Sept. 2, 1877, in Canton, Madison County, Miss. Died Jan. 31, 1947, in Oklahoma City, Okla., where she is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery. On Feb. 3, 1905, she married John Calloway "Jack" Walton (March 6, 1881 - Nov. 25, 1949) in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. John Walton served as the fifth governor of Oklahoma in 1923. They had two children, Madeleine Walton Anschutz (the Rev. John R.), who was born Jan. 10, 1912, and died in 1983; and Sabina Walton Martin (Charles E. Jr.), born in 1913.
sister, Gertrude (or Agnes Gertrude) Orrick: Born in or about 1884 and died on May 21/22, 1966, at age 85 in Gary, Lake County, Ind., where she had lived for 20 to 40 years, perhaps longer. She specialized in painting miniatures on ivory, according to Joel S. Dryer with the Illinois Historical Art Project. Gertrude married Granville Martin Semmes on April 25, 1905. He died Oct. 20, 1942, in Gary, Ind., at age 60. He was president of a mortgage loan and insurance company, Calumet-Securities, Inc. The couple had no children.

Fourth Generation
NICHOLAS CROMWELL ORRICK

Born Oct. 27, 1837, near Martinsburg, Virginia (Morgan County), a son of Cromwell Orrick and Mary Johnson. He died Oct. 13, 1897. He married Mary Semmes on Jan. 15, 1863. Nicholas graduated from the University of Virginia in 1855. In 1861, he enlisted in the Confederate Army, Company I, 10th Mississippi regiment, Madison rifles, under Capt. Joseph Davis, and was sent to Fort McRea, Fla., where he remained until transferred to the army of Virginia. He participated in the Valley campaign under Stonewall Jackson. He started in the mercantile business in 1869.

CROMWELL ORRICK

Cromwell was born Aug. 25, 1793, a son of Nicholas Orrick and Mary Pendleton. He died in 1856. On Jan. 25, 1816, he married Mary Johnson.

Sixth Generation
NICHOLAS ORRICK

Nicholas was born in 1759, a son of Nicholas Orrick and Hannah Cromwell. He died in 1822. On Feb. 3, 1783 or 1788, he married Mary Pendleton (March 4, 1771 - April 15, 1838), a daughter of William and Betty Pendleton. He was elected justice of Berkeley Springs, Va. and moved to what is now Morgan County, West Virginia, where he was associated in business with James Rumsey. It is claimed that Rumsey was the real inventor of the steamboat and Orrick was on Rumsey's boat when it made its trip down the Potomac River.

brother, John Orrick II: Born Oct. 30, 1753, in Baltimore, Maryland. He died Nov. 4, 1810. He married Sarah Merryman (Sept. 15, 1754 - June 5, 1835), a daughter of Nicholas Merryman Sr. They had one child, a son, Daniel (1775-about 1851).
sister, Margaret Orrick: Born Nov. 23, 1755. Married Job Smith.
sister, Susan Orrick: Born Aug. 24, 1757. Married Absolom Butler.
sister, Sarah Orrick: Born April 16, 1762. Married John Jackson.
brother, Charles Orrick: Born Nov. 21, 1762 (?). Married Catherine Davenport.
brother, Sydney Orrick: Born in 1772. Died in 1825. He never married.


Seventh Generation
NICHOLAS ORRICK

Nicholas was born May 1, 1725, a son of John Orrick and Susannah Hammond. He died Feb. 1, 1785. On May 1, 1749, he married Hannah Cromwell. On March 16, 1769, he married Mary Bell. He was a man of prominence and highly esteemed in Baltimore County, Maryland, where he resided. He was three times vestryman of Old St. Thomas Church, Garrison Forest, Baltimore County, and in 1756, commanded the troops of Baltimore County, with the rank of captain.

(daughter), Elizabeth Orrick: Born April 1, 1758. Died Nov. 28, 1784. On July 21, 1779, she married Nicholas Ruxton Moore. They had one child.
(son), John Orrick: Born March 29, 1760. Died before 1793. No children.
brother, Nathan Orrick: Born Sept. 4, 1727. Died in 1733.
sister, Rebecca Orrick: Born and died in 1729.
brother, Thomas Orrick: Born June 8, 1732. Died in 1733.
sister, Rebekah Orrick: Born Sept. 14, 1733. On May 10, 1750, she married Dr. Henry Murray of Cambridge, Md.
sister, Catherine Orrick: Born Aug. 19, 1736. Married Col. Elihu Hall.
brother, Charles Orrick: Born Feb. 28, 1738. Resided in Howard County, Maryland and served with distinction in the Revolutionary War as an ensign. He married Rebecca Stewart.
sister, Sarah Orrick: Born April 3, 1741. Died in 1783. On Sept. 30, 1768, she married William Chilton (1730-1775) of "Maidstone" Plantation, Westmoreland County, Va., in Loudon County, Va. On Dec. 12, 1778, she married Col. William Douglass. Two children were born.
sister, Susannah Orrick: Born Jan. 9, 1743. Married Daniel Sulivane.
