Davidson is my great - great grandmother's last name. Her father changed his name from Davison to Davidson since everyone in America (well, Virginia) said it that way.
So, here is my family tree, coming from its Scottish roots upwards.

The civil war truly became a fight of brother against brother. Samuel joined the war and fought. David remained neutral. Samuel later became a senator in Virginia. David made a beautiful pen and ink drawing of a ship. Many of the people in northern Virginia had family roots in what became West Virginia. David is just an example of the mixed emotions people in this part of the country felt when the Civil War came.

Mary Malissa Davidson died 1 Jun, 1935 in Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia. She was buried in Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Winchester on 4 Jun, 1935. This is my great-great grandmother, the woman that inspires this page. She was a very religious woman and wrote several religious poems. She spent the last several years of her life an invalid, cared for by her only living child, Ada, and her oldest grandchild, Dellitt (my namesake). I have seen her in family photographs. She has a fine and beautiful smile. You can easily feel the warmth she brought to the world. Her husband, David Wingerter, preceeded her in death by nearly 20 years. He died 22 May, 1916 in Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia and was buried 25 May, 1916 in Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Winchester. He was the oldest of 6 children and born 23 Apr, 1849 in Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to Barbara Dellit (for whom my grandmother was named) and John Wingerter. John had immigrated to the U.S. with his mother Catherine and his sister Mary. His father Peter had died in Bavaria, where they were from. David and Mary Malissa were married in her father's home in Cedar Grove.

Aljourn Hunter Davidson died 6 Jan, 1951 in Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia and was buried 9 Jan, 1951 in Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Winchester. Aljourn's 2nd wife Arabelle Pulliam was born 14 Jun, 1869 and died 10 Oct, 1951 in Winchester. She was buried 13 Oct, 1951 in Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Winchester.

Ellen Hamileen Davidson died 26 Nov, 1948 in Washington, D.C. She was buried in Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia.

David Newton Davidson died 9 Dec, 1943 in Newport News, Virginia.

Rudy Andrew Wingerter died of spinal meningitis 19 May, 1900. He was buried in Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia.

William James Lockhart was born 15 May, 1903 in Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia. He is my grandfather. He died 1 Aug, 1975 in Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia, so I never knew him. He was buried 5 Aug, 1975 in Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Winchester. Grandma I knew. She was an avid genealogist. In her last years, bedridden and unable to know her children's faces, she maintained her sense of humor. She was a lovely woman. She died 7 May, 1998 in Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia. She was buried 11 May, 1998 in Mt. Hebron Cemetery next to her husband. I laid flowers on her grave this summer, and though they are doubtless gone by now, they are in my heart always. I know a great many people loved, trusted, and respected Grandma and feel the same. My mother fondly remembers Grandpa, for she loved, trusted, and respected him as well.

Wilbur Harold Jenkins served during WWII in Italy. He was among the medical personnel and took xrays. I never met this great-uncle, but his widow speaks fondly of him. He had a kindness and gentleness about him. He died 28 Mar, 1995 in Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Vienna, Wood County, West Virginia.

Frances Anita Jenkins, a fine woman my mother remembers fondly, beautiful and kind, died 16 Jul, 1985 in Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia. She is buried in Macedonia Cemetery, Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia. Her husband Ellsworth Holmes Newcome was born 12 Feb, 1919 in Frederick County, Virginia. He died 29 Dec, 1974 in Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia and was buried 31 Dec, 1974 in Macedonia Cemetery, in Winchester.
