14.Isabel Strelley married Clement Lowe, son of Humphrey Lowe by Margaret, daughter and heiress of John Linstone.

Remark : I pointed out two authorities that say that he married Margaret Cokayne. Douglas replied, “I doubt the Cokayne marriage.” Two more authorities that say that Humphrey Lowe married Margaret Cokayne (daughter of Thomas Cokayne and Agnes Barlow) are J. Charles Cox, Notes on the Churches of Derbyshire (1877) 2:328 and Andreas Edward Cockayne, Cockayne Memoranda (1873), pedigree at end.

13.Sanch Willoughby, married (1) John Strelley (2) John Digby
Sanche died in May 1533. Sir John Digby died in May 1533.

I am suspicious of the date Sanche died; I have seen no evidence for it, and wonder if it could represent a confusion with her second husband who did die in that month.

13.Sanche Willoughby married (2nd) (as his 2nd wife) John Digby, 3rd son of Everard Digby by Jacques (or Jacquet) daughter of John Ellis.

Secondary sources differ as to whether Sir John was of this parentage or was instead a younger brother of Everard (II), being the third son of Everard (I) and Agnes Clarke. Chronology demonstrates that the latter version is correct.

Everard (II) was born ca.1450 (aged 12 years and more in 1461, ipm George F. Farnham, Leicestershire Medieval Pedigrees (1925) p.131; aged under 29 in 1469, Eric Acheson, A Gentry Community (1992) p.227). Sir John Digby was married by 1477 to his first wife, Katherine (Griffin) Beler, and this was by no means a child marriage. George F. Farnham, Leicestershire Medieval Village Notes 6;316 (1933). He was an esquire of the Household by 1479, CPR 1476-86 p.138, and fought at Bosworth in 1485, Nichols’ Leicestershire 2:1:262. Thus he was obviously the brother, not the son of Everard II. John was probably born ca.1453

14.Isabel Strelley married (1) Clement Lowe, son of Humphrey Lowe by Margaret, daughter of John Linstone.

Remark : This is supported by A. Lawson Lowe, “Some Accoun t of the Family of Lowe,” Journal of the Derbyshire Archaeological and Natural History Society 3:157, 174. However, Stephen Glover’s History and Gazetteer of the County of Derby (1892) 2:398 shows Humphrey’s wife and Clement’s mother as Margaret Cokayne. The generally excellent article “Lowe of Denby, County Derby, England and Maryland,” NGSQ 51:32, 35, by G. Rodney Crowther III, says that Humphrey married (1) Margaret Linstone (2) Margaret Cokayne, and that Clement was son by the second marriage. I’m not sure how to resolve this conflict among the sources.

Remark : According to my notes, the marriage to Margaret Cokayne is also repeated by Sadler, in an article in Derbyshire Arch Soc new series vol. 8
Among some transcripts of deeds in College of Arms, Vincent MS 146, which I had extracted several years ago, is this:
Sciant &c quod nos Laurentius Lowe Hunfridus Lowe filius et heres eius et Marg’eta uxor d’ci Humfr’I concessimus Joh’I Cokayn et Thomas Cokayn filio sue terras in parva Clifton. Dat Ao 1562. (p.123, no 3)

15.Mary Lowe married William Sacheverell, son of Henry Sacheverell, knt, of Morley by Elizabeth (or Isabel), daughter of Nicholas Montgomery.

This implies that the Plantagenet lineage enters the Sacheverell family through Mary Lowe, but there appears to be an earlier link. In this book, on page 461, Joan Longford, daughter of Sir Nicholas and Margery Sulney, is shown as wife of Sir Nicholas Montgomery. RPA does not make a connection between these two Nicholases, but I believe Rosie Bevan has shown that there is one. Rosie’s well documented posts of November 2002 on Montgomery of Cubley give this sequence for this family:
Sir Nicholas II Montgomery, m. Margery Sulney
Sir Nicholas III Montgomery, m. Isabella Vernon
Sir Nicholas IV Montgomery, m. Joan Delves
Isabella/Elizabeth Montgomery, m. Henry Sacheverell of Morley
