IN THE INDEX:
The Peterborough County Surrogate Court estate files for the
years 1842 to 1859 are arranged in alphabetical order.  The
estate files for the post 1859 period are arranged in file order
number. To find the file number you must first look up the name
of the deceased in the index for the year the person died.  The
names of the deceased are arranged in partial  alphabetical order
by the first letter of the surname. For the years 1859 to 1878
use the alphabetical index at the back of the Register.  Make
note of both the file number and the date as the numbers repeat. 
For the period 1878-1900 use the alphabetical index at the back
of the Register to find the file number which is to the left of
the name. During the years 1912-1966 use the application number
in the first column.
