We have a Richard Woolsey who loaned money to the American cause during the Revolutionary War and I think the Richard Woolsey, who is named in the will of Phebe Barnes, may be that Richard Woolsey. 86 pounds British sterling was a great deal of money at that time, about $6,450 in NY currency, and I'm inclined to wonder where Richard Woolsey got that much money, except from a prosperous Mariner and his wife, who may be someone related??

P. 92: James Baxter of So. Carolina, late of Westchester, yeoman, to Thomas Barnes of Westchester, mariner; a tract of land on Throg's Neck in Westchester; Apr. 2, 1734.

P. 101: Palmer Doughty of Flushing, yeoman, and Sarah his wife, to Edmund Burling of New York, merchant; land in Eastchester, bordering on land of Edmund Ward, dec'd.; June 6, 1734.

P. 102: "Charlestown, S. C, May 31, 1734. Then received of Abraham Emans and Abigail his wife, by hand of Capt. Thomas Barnes, the sum of twenty pounds in payment for a certain tract of land" [mortgage] "by me" in Yonkers. * * * [Signed] James Baxter.

Thomas Barnes of City of New York, mariner, being in good health - pay all my just debts & funeral charges to be paid - I leave to my dearly beloved wife Phebe my dwelling house and lot of ground (consisting of about 20 acres) situated in the county and town of Westchester, also all my undivided rights of commonage in said town, also 10 acres of wood-land on Throg's Neck in said county which land I purchased of John Baxter - Likewise unto her my negro man slave Dublin and my negro girl slave called Sarah - also unto her, while my widow, the eastern most half of my dwelling house and lot of ground situated in Montgomery Ward in the City of New York fronting on Cherry St; being in length about 240' and in Breadth upon the N side of the street, about 100' - all rents & profits of said half to her devised to be in lieu of her dower - Other half to my daughter Phila, upon death etc of my wife to said dau. Unto my dau Elizabeth Fry, widow of David Fry dec'd - lot in said ward known as the Meadow which lot I bought of the Rosevelts etc to pass to my grandson Thomas Barnes Fry - to each of my daus: Phila, Phebe w/o Norman Tolmie & Mary - My wife & son in law Norman Tolmie & dau Mary Exor's Dated 30 Jul 1761 - Wit: Benjamin Blagge of city of NY, gent., Peter Dabson, Benj. Kissan, of city of NY, gent. Proved 4 Feb 1763.

Phebe Barnes, Widow, of New York City - to dau Mary to have charge of funeral arrangements, to my dau Phebe gold watch & large silver punch bowl, to my dau Mary all my ready cash, also a bond of 600 pounds & moneys of interest due from the Mayor, Aldermen, and commonality of City of NY - Another bond of 86 pounds and interest due from RICHARD WOOLSEY & others; also my wearing apparel, also my large silver tankard & all my plate including my tea table plate, also my beds, bedding & furniture also my household & kitchen furniture also all my part & share which I held jointly or in commonweath my daus or any of them of and in the land of Throg's Neck, which was purchased of James Baxter, to my dau Elizabeth etc the 10 acres of land at Throg's Neck which was purchased of James Baxter & also my house & lands in the town of Westchester, also the small lot of salt meadow which I bought of Nathaniel Underhill; to my dau Philinda my large Bible, all the rest etc to my dau Mary, etc. I appoint my dau Mary Kerly (Kerby?), extrx & John Stagg, mason of NY ciity, Exor. In case of death of John Stagg I appoint Abraham W. De Peyster, atty at Law Co-executor - Each of my daus aforesaid shall have one of the 4 pieces of gold which I have had long ago in my possession but my dau Elizabeth shall have the lightest among them. Dated 13 Nov 1785 : Proved 3 Nov 1788 Witnesses: John Dalton, Samuel Akerly, Abraham De Peyster.
