David Parkhill d Feb 24, 1844 Guntersville, Marshall Co, AL.  His wife Martha Wassham (Worsham) b Dec. 10, 1783. This David Parkhill, was assumed to have died early, but left Massachusetts and went to TN. (James Parkhill, 2001)

"With the approach of the American Revolution, the dream of becoming a separate colony with a royal colony with a royal governor was abandoned, and on petition of the inhabitants the territory of Tennessee was annexed to North Carolina in 1776 as the Washington district, which in 1777 became Washington County, with the Mississippi River as the western boundary. During the American Revolution, hardy mountaineers under John Sevier and Evan Shelby valiantly fought against both the royal troops chiefly as partisan rangers under Charles McDowell (1743-1815). An interesting note shows the following regarding the marriage of David Parkhill and Martha Wassham.” (James Parkhill, 2000)

The early Worsham families of Georgia have proven difficult to track their ancestors. Baldwin and Putnam are neighboring counties in the center of Georgia. The 1790, 1800 & 1810 census records were lost for adjoining Wilkes, Green, Putnam & Baldwin counties. Three early settlers in this area of Georgia were: Jeremiah Worsham b. abt. 1770 settling in Baldwin Co, GA, William Worsham b abt. 1770 & Appling Worsham b abt. 1782 both settling in Putnam Co., GA. All three apparently have ties to North Carolina and may be related. They could be related to Essex & Elizabeth Worsham (page 27) of Chesterfield Co., VA who had 3 known sons William Worsham, John Washam & Branch Worsham.

1. Jeremiah Worsham b. abt 1770 GA. This may be the Jeremiah Washam b bef 1774 in the 1790 census of Salisbury District, Mecklenburg Co, NC, p163. In the household were another male b bef 1774, 1 male b 1774-1790; and 3 females b bef 1774. Jeremiah may be related to John Washam (page 354), a son of Essex Worsham (page 27) b 11 Jun 1732. John also had a son named Jeremiah.

2. William Worsham b. abt 1770 VA. He probably married twice. He md 1st) unknown and had six children. He is on the 1813 Putnam Co GA Tax Roll as William Worsham, neighbors are: John Fleming, Stephen Parker, Abner Wells, Fanny Gilbert, Jonathan Brooks, & Joseph Cooper.

He md 2nd) Frances A. who was b. abt. 1793 NC. She may be Frances Ann Baley who md. William Worsham 24 Aug 1818 Rowan Co., NC, with bondsman Milas Washam & witness Mack Crump. Milas Washam is Miles Washam a grandson of Essex Worsham on page 27.

William is in the 1820 Capt. Wm. Jernigan's District (p 84) Putnam Co, GA cens, as William Wosham Sr. b bef 1775, 1m b 1804-10, 1m b 1802-04, 1 f 1804-10, 1f 1802-04, 1f bef 1775, nearby are Joseph Cooper Junr, Jese Harrison, George King, Richard Carnier?, John Brooks, Warren Jackson.

William is also in the 1830 Capt Stephen Williams District, Putnam Co, GA census as William Worsham b 1760-1770, 2m b 1825-30, 1 m b 1820-25, 1m b 1815-20, 1 m b 1800-10, 2 f b 1825-30, 2 f b 1815-20, 1f b 1800-10, 1f b 1790-1800, p184 nearby Thomas Perdew, Lucian B Harris, ? Shields, Robert Gilbert, William Mahon, William Todd.

He is in the 1840 District 310, Putnam Co, GA census (p197) as William Washam b 1760-1770, 2m b 1830-35, 1m b 1820-25, 1f b 1825-30, 1f b 1820-25, 1 f 1790-1800. Neighbors were: Luris Lynch, William Hall, Christopher Dusdred?, James M Lawrence.

William died before 1845 and Frances and their children moved to Baldwin Co., GA. The following is from History of Baldwin County, Georgia. Cook, Anna Maria Green, Anderson, SC Keys-Hearn Print Co. 1925, p 317: "ELLISON-BROOKS, In 1845, Nicholas Beauchel Brooks, Jerry Fowler, John Ferrell, Acey Jeffres, Clayton Vaughn, Willis Vaughn, and Ras Vaughn came to Milledgeville, from Cherokee County, when these young men were about twenty one years old. About the same time Frances Worsham, a widow with her three sons, Joe Urbin and John and two daughters, Caroline and Mary, came from Putnam County to settle in Milledgeville. Two years later, Nicholas Brooks and Mary Worsham were married. William Vinson Ellison came to Milledgeville from Cherokee county while a young man. This was about the year 1830. He married a Miss Hass, who lived only a few years, leaving three children. William Ellison, then married Theressa Boutwell, a daughter of Chappel Boutwell and Hannah Micklejohn Boutwell. Adolphius Leroy Ellison was a son of this second marriage and was married to Anna Brooks, a daughter of Nicholas Brooks and Mary Worsham Brooks, in the year 1870."
