The old year has gone, and carried with it many fond memories and sorrows. It has been very short, but I still do not wish it longer. Roll on, and take all unpleasant thoughts such as, & do not wish to blur the brightness of the fast approaching New Year. Many deeds were left undone, much done that never should have been accomplished, yet my conscience says leave the past as it is, and improve the future. So be it. But, may the next year find me better fitted for life, if that be my mission, or in whatever path my duty lay, may I not hesitate to perform.

Now good bye little book of the past year. You must not tell tales out of school, or roam in the forbidden paths. Although you are a partial record of my life, that is no reason you should reveal it to others, what is not their business to know. All rash and unprofitable thoughts flee from memory! Enter not again.

[Hopefully Mattie won't mind now]
