THE BURNING OF KINGSTON.

To be Fittingly Celebrated on the Anniversary, Oct. 16.

KINGSTON, N. Y., Oct. 9.--Monday, Oct. 16, will be the one hundred and sixteenth anniversary of the burning of Kingston, the then capital of the State of New-York, by the British under Major Gen. John Vaughan. The Wiltwyck Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, has prepared a programme for the suitable observance of the day, which will close with commemorative public exercises at the State Armory.
At 2 P. M a luncheon will be served to the chapter and invited guests at the time-honored Revolutionary residence of A. H. Pruyn by the Misses Forsyth, after which the guests will be formally received by the chapter.
At the time of the burning of Kingston the women and children left helpless in the absence of husbands and fathers, most of whom were in military service, fled to Hurley. At 3 o'clock, true to Revolutionary precedent, the Daughters with their guests will flee to Hurley, where they will be sheltered in the Revolutionary homestead of the Wynkoop family, now owned by James D. Wynkoop. Mrs. Wynkoop, a member of the chapter, assisted by a reception committee, will receive the guests.
At 8 P. M. public commemorative exercises will be held in the State Armory, the Fourteenth Separate Company rendering its assistance. The speakers of the evening will be Gen. George H. Sharpe, a member of the Society of Sons of the Revolution, Gen. Adolphus W. Greeley of arctic fame, a member of the Society of Sons of the American Revolution, and Gen. Horace Porter, President General of the Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. Henry Abby will read an original poem. David M. Kennedy, Mayor of the city, will preside.
Among the invited guests are President and Mrs. Cleveland, Vice President and Mrs. Stevenson, who is the President General of the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Gov. Roswell P. Flower with staff.
Members of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution, Sons of the Revolution, Order of the Cincinnati, Holland, St. Nicholas, Huguenots, and St. Patrick Societies, Grand Army Posts, and kindred organizations are invited to be present at the armory, wearing the badges of their respective orders.
