The Late Fugitive Slave Case.

In another column, will be found the N. Y. Tribune's report of the proceedings before the U. S. Circuit Court, on habeus corpus, for the discharge of Deputy U. S. Marshals, held on a warrant issued by GILBERT BURROWS, Esq., a magistrate of this Borough, against them, on charge of a person by the name of Gildersleeve, for committing an Assault and Battery upon a fugitive slave, with intent to kill him.
If the warrant was issued in this way, the oath upon which it was grounded must have been such, and this view of the case is entirely new and strange to us. We thought we were in possession of the facts of the proceedings of the Marshals, and certainly, to our mind, their conduct justified no such conclusion; and indeed, as much as we have heard the matter discussed, we had not before heard it intimated by a single person, that any such inference was entertained by any one.
From the knowledge we have gained of the whole transaction, there was no violence exerted upon the fugitive "Bill," until rendered necessary, by a murderous assault upon the officers by the negro. And, that he did commit an outrageous and bloody attack upon the marshals, is true, notwithstanding the false and reckless statements of David Paul Brown, to his Honor, JUDGE GRIER.
The transactions of the Marshals, and of some of those concerned in the prosecution of them, will probably now undergo judicial investigation, and we shall keep our readers advised of the proceedings. We shall say more about this business next week, and shall speak our sentiments boldly. If we can procure a copy of the affidavit of the man Gildersleeve, we shall publish it with the further proceedings.
