LETTERS FROM OUR VOLUNTEERS.

CAMP CAMERON, Harrisburg, Oct. 1st, 1861.
DEAR JOURNAL:--I must correct an error in my last letter in regard to a Schuylkill County Captain promising a Sergeantcy to one of Capt. Bennet's men. He was a Captain from Pittsburg; but I was right in regard to the other affair.
Capt. Donovan has not yet arrived at Camp Cameron as stated in the JOURNAL of last Saturday, nor has Col. Wynkoop yet left this Camp for Chambersburg as stated.
Our uniforms, like Christmas, "are coming." We are promised them this week, with the assurances as was Doestick's friend, all the comforts in camp that he had been accustomed to at home. We have however, received the most of our Camp equipage for our (Zeigle's) regiment. All but the much needed clothing soon to come first; but we can say with the poet,
"Patience of whose sovereign grace we have her aid,
        And rest ourselves content."
Major Williams of the 5th Artillery, U. S. A., the efficient head of this Camp, was a few days ago promoted to the rank of Brigadier General. He is a gentleman well worthy of the honor conferred upon him.
Your humble correspondent, as will be seen by the muster roll which will be sent to you for publication, has also been promoted from the rank of a high private in the rear rank. It is not quite so responsible a position as that to which the Major has risen, but it is nevertheless acceptable.
We are all as well as usual, an item which will be I think gratifying to our friends. The physician who inspected the company remarked that our men were as healthy as any he had examined. But one was rejected.
                                                                    J. S. B.
